fuel pump or AFM??

ok, my 79 280 zx wont start. when i turn the key to on before starting the engine i do not hear the usual hum of the fuel pump from the back right of the car. It starts when starting fluid is sprayed in the intake.

does anyone know if the AFM could prevent the fuel pump from turning on?

any help would be awesome, thanks

the afm isnt going to stop the fuel pump from priming the engine. if you arent hearing the pump, then do as ice said. and dont for get to check the fuses and fusible links.

isiac, when did you get a 350?
