Engine swap to ka24de
Has anyone done this, i know there is weight drop aswell from the motors. I have heard of people doing this in other 280zx's. Just no one here that i know of. I am new z owner and just picked up my 83 280zx. I am liking everything about the car but i want more power... I know alot of people here with ka24de/t's. I would be able to get one for about $350 for the n/a.
So back to my original question. What would be needed for the swap? Or is just to steer clear of it and just go the 3.1l route and boost it? just trying to go the cheaper route? Thanks for the help! |
|
oh wow... i feel special thanks for the quick help lol

If you want the simple, and most cost friendly route, source an L28ET and dump it in.
If you want complex, costly, and lots of headaches, all for a 4cyl, go KA24. :D |
that is my issue, there is a store her strictly for z's. But it is like trying to get out of hell just to get ahold of him, it seems that the only l28et that was around here sold for 1 grand, mainly i was looking for something cheap and around the $1000 mark. I believe i saw one of your posts about some simple ways to give the l28 more power... I just cannot seem to find it again. I heard that a ka24 tb would help, i already did a cold air intake, port and polished my original tb, removed alot of weight. I am currently lowering it 2 inches which should help me with autocross. Mainly bolt on, but i fear i may have to get a new motor (only paid $1200 for the car) There is a tick coming from the back of the motor, and it back fires from the intake sometimes when i give it gas so back to what you stated the l28et may be my only route, if you know of a place to get a used one with the full setup for under a grand (also enough for shipping lol)

look for an older 300zx turbo. It's not exactly a bolt in swap, but it's not that hard to toss one in.

me me me but im runnin an 24e :/ pm me if you would like me to make you motor mounts. ill get them to ya asap. i also have a rouge style supercharger intake manifold adapter for the ka24e also. check her out

how much would you charge for those mounts? cause it might be something of interest if I ever went SR. Though I have a tickle in my pants for an RB

check craig's list for seattle (and maybe spokane) you are only 1/2 a state away. the L28ET is your best bet. keep in mind the 280zxt wasn't that much of a screamer compared to what you can buy new off the lot in this era. headers, improve intake air, tuning get rid of some weight is what you can do to a stock n/a L28. work on the suspension and they are a lot more fun to drive on twisty roads but if you want to leave folks in the dust you might think about a z32TT.

haha i got an rb20 in the bed of my truck right now... and a 26 layin in the floor of my shop? lol thought about puttin it in and makin some mounts for it also that way id have ka/sr, rb20 and rb25/26 mounts for a zx. as far as the mounts i used the ka top half of the tranny mount welded to the stock zx crossmember i havent actually made a solid mount for the tranny yet. i will just not yet. but motor mounts your lookin at 80 in materials and 2 hours so throw me an offer im willin to help a botha out lol. as far as any rb mounts the price will differ since i dont already have designs :) just lemme kno

rb mounts are already made by nissan. lol do a search.

Another feasible swap is a SBC. Cheaper compared to the other Nissan engines and more stock power. Depending on what one you choose that is. My LT1 with a few "mods" should be pushing around 320 to the wheels.
I got the engine for $500, 5 speed tranny for $250(with new clutch), Standalone harness with Chipped ECU $250, mounts were $80... Still need to do the exhaust (looking around $300 if I do an electric cutout), Driveshaft ($180), clutch line ($30), throttle cable ($60), and fluids. |
shut the **** up about your goddamn LT1
|
Jealous much?
|
**** no, LT1's suck entirely as motors and are completely useless, not to mention he talks nonstop about it on the internet.
