ECU problem?

I drive a 1982 zxt, 5 sp it came with a ecu A18-603-045 apparently a 1983 5 speed turbo ecu, it works, Im trying to get it back to original, I have bought 3 1982 5 speed turbo ecu,s. A18-601-042, none of which work, the cars starter turns but nada on the start, what the heck is up?

If your fuel injection relay working or hooked up?
Have you tested for spark and fuel so you know if you're getting either?

The car runs good with the A18-603-045, no problems at all, so I would guess the relay would be working, I will go out today and check for spark. If I only had a pin out for a 83 turbo car I could match it up with my FSM 82 pin out to see if anything is different.

I kinda work by myself, so checking for spark might be , forget that I will hook up my hand held remote starter. and see about spark. Thanks I will report back with update.

Will also listen for fuel pump pre pressureization (noise).

Ok, went out and tried all 3 A18-603-042s, with key in the on position, using my remote starter, answer is........

No spark from coil.
No fuel pump turn on.

Now while I was plugging in ecu I noticed pins 28 and 36 the 2 pins on the very end, actually the only plug marked with pin numbers, has 2 black wires going into them, but just ahead
of the pins, theres a splice with another slightly larger wire,
looks like it is covered with wire shrink wrap that was not shrunk, anyway Ive got 3 black wires going into a splice, then only 2 coming out of splice going to pins 28 and 36, there right across from each other on the plug, old alarm? of course they dont label the pin numbers in the FSM, really confusing, but I think were close to solving this.
What do you suggest next. shoot it :)
Thanks Charles

On further inspection....basically unwrapping electrical tape, un up
the wiring harness, just a few inchs from the plug, that strange looking odd wire goes to a bunch of grounds, coming from 2 different gray cables, all the gray cables have braided grounds.

the gray cables are in the harness, but there stand alone cables, not just some wires but wrapped in gray covers?

So now its like 4 grounds to 1 ground to 3 grounds to 2 grounds.

I looked to see if I could see where someone had cut a wire right at the pin and left the pin as they normally do, but no old not used pins in connectors.

Update..........

While I was under the dash looking at wires I saw the part number tag on the ECU wiring harness,
Part # 24011p9010 referenced my parts fish CD and found nissan started using this harness in 07/82

And the car was built in 12/81

Should have Part# 24011p9000 nissan started using this harness
09/81

So apparently the harness has been changed, nice to know.

So nissan changes model years in 06 month I think, so I guess its a 83 harness in a 82 car, does that sound right?

Up date..........
While picking up some parts for my brothers car at nissan, I asked the guy to lookup the part number for the efi harness
and you guess it..I have the correct harness for my car, also
got the part number for the computer. 2371MP9001RE, what good it does me, its not on the ECU.

That ECU number is for build date 9/81-8/82
5 speed turbo non auto air. Federal

So Harness is correct Hmmmmmm.
Kinda back to square one, well not all the way back but close.
Any Ideas out there, gotta be simple.
Ok Ive went thu my ECUs and the 4 digit number, on the ID badge
lines up to be build date. (Im guessing here) but again maybe build date of ECU and not car, which again tells me Nada.

2717= 2=1982/ 7=july / 17=17 day or 7 / 17 / 1982 suppose to be 82 ecu

2610= 6/ 10 / 1982 suppose to be 1982 ecu

3111= 1 / 11 / 1983 suppose to be 1983 ecu

2323= 3 / 23 / 1982 suppose to be 1982 ecu

So looks like all 3 1982 ecu falls into the build date I need to have but they
dont work!!!

and the 1983 one does work

I think 82 280zxt 5 speed Stock, was auto, no goodies at all.
