Dyno Results

There is a shop with a dyno on my way to work. I have passed it every day for like 3 months now, just itching to take my stock Z in there. Today I finally did it, and it was pretty cheap! 75 bucks for 3 pulls and I can tune the car in between pulls. The only mods are plug wires, cold air, and more ign timing, oh and a magnaflow muffler. She made 124.5 hp ataround 575rpm and 132 ft lbs torque at around 4750. The car is running super lean accordin to the dyno, so I need to work on that before anything else. Afm ir rebuilt, fuel pump, regulator and injectors all work properly. the o2 sensor is recent, and I cant find the CHT anywhere, all thats in the water jacket is the water temp and thermo time switch. I have run lots of injector cleaner and octane boost through the motor and i run premium gas, how could it still be lean? I thought these cars were supposed to run rich? the afr is off the chart lean at idle, and between 14.5 and 18 to one throught the rpm band. Has anyone else had this problem?

hey, man. I see you're from Cali. Are you in SoCal? If so, I'd like to know where you went. I've had a hard time finding a place to get a Dyno.

Those are actually very good numbers for a stock car. I have dynoed several stock setups and they are almost always around 120hp if the car is running perfectly. Running lean is perfectly normal for an N/A car especially if the timing has been slightly advanced. You would really only have to worry about running lean on a turbo setup. Most N/A L28s that I have seen dyno have AFR in the on average between 15 and 18.

In AZ most Dyno's are 75.00 for an hour.. As many oulls as you can do in an hour while tuning..

I pay $40 for three pulls with minor tuning in between when I dyno, but thats with the club so I think we get a discount.

Im in Hayward, CA by oakland sorta. The labor rate at shops around here is crazy high, and I think that influences the price a lot. Plus the place just opened, isnt very buisy, and the payment on the Dyno has to be Crazy$ a month. Yah, i set the timing by ear after I got it smogged, and just put a timing light on it and saw I had about 50deg total advance, which didnt help on the dyno I'm sure. PLus, I finally found the CHT on the front of the motor, Isaac and Wade both pointed out that I have a 79 head on my 81 car, I dunno why. The CHT wiring broke when I was fiddling with it in my buddies driveway, so I had to Jerry rig it back together to get home. Are all the two pin connectors on these harnesses the same? It seems like i could use a injector pigtail on it, right?

with that hp & torque, do you know your car acceleration time at 0-60 &1/4 mile?

Yeah, most of the 2 prong connectors use the same Bosch style plug. I don't know about the CHT sensor on my 81 head uses that same connector. Really any of the Bosch style sensors will work, not just the ones designed for the L28. I've got an injector harness off of a Z32 on my car. I had to shave the a little tab out of the inside of the connector to make it fit but they just plugged right in after that.
