Coil Question
I'm New Here! I Have A 1982 Turbo 280zx And I Just Read Earlier That Reversing The Wires On The Coil Greatly Affects Performance. Well, I Looked And There Is A Black Wire And A Blue Wire. The Black Wire Was Hooked Up To The Positive Side And The Blue Wire To The Negative Side.
My First Instinct Is Black Is Always The Ground Wire (or Negative) So I Reversed Them Back. So Far I Can't Tell The Difference. The Car Feels Stronger, But It May Be My Imagination. So, Is The Black Wire To Be Put At The Positive Or Negative Side? |
Um, just where did you hear reversing the coil wires was good for performance?
no I heard reversing them while changing out the coil was bad for it and this is a new coil and I think someone accidentally reversed them
in saying affecting performance I meant it does bad for it
not good. |
Maybe I should say reversing the wires to the correct position would help it.
I just wanted to know if the blue wire was positive or negative
Someone please just type something! I feel like I'm talking to myself.
blue is negative.. mine is 81 turbo.. same design.. they put black/white stripe on positive and blue on negative..(weird huh..)
thanks, I guess I will have to switch it back in the morning.
Haha, I just had the same problem with my '82 turbo recently (there's a thread on it still). I was installing a Crane ignition/coil and I forgot to note what color wire went to which coil. And the wiring is slightly different on my NA ZX, so that was no help. The "obvious" would be that the black wire goes to negative, but technically it's not black (black w/white stripe). So yeah, the black/white wire is positive.

I guess that shows I shouldn't mess with anything that I'm not sure about. I certainly thought the blackand white wire was negative, but I was wrong.
