clutch!

LOL im sorry i had to post this its so funny to me...
i start my car for the first time whole winter i was AMAZED!
starts right up
800-900 rpm....runs like awsome!!!
so it was down the driveway (BARELY sloped driveway...) so i decide to move it up....i put it in 1st give it gas....LOL i aint moving!!!!! hahaha i was up at like 4000 RPM and BARELY making it up the slope......NO CLUTCH AT ALL lol ....i suspected this last year so i bought a clutch kit :) i dunno if u find this funny i sure as hell do lol......now i know why my car was slow all last summer........im suprised i didnt havta shift into second and 3rd i was hitting high rpm LOL!

Fredrik 04-09-2003 06:24 AM

That is kind of funny:) The same thing happened to me and when I removed the gearbox in order to replace the clutch all the nice smelling oil ended up in my face :D

Skully 04-09-2003 01:05 PM

awwwww drain it first isnt there a plug!!!

hey did u do it at home type thing or do u have a shop
i was gonna do mine right at home since im straped for cash :)
if you did how did u jack it up and was it all that hard to put in the new clutch?

icice9 04-11-2003 03:14 PM

its not hard at all to change your clutch.. ive done it enough times to know that its pretty simple to do.. just takes a lil patients.. all you need is a good floor jack and a lil muscle.. probably the hardest part is lining it back up.. thats where your muscles come in.. lol if you dont want to drain it first before taking out the transmission, after taking out the driveshaft leave the one end thats connected to the transmission in place because thats the only place the oil can come out but if the driveshaft is still in then you wont get a huge oil spill on your driveway...:D

Skully 04-11-2003 03:58 PM

heheh no ill drain it first ......
anyways cool i got patience i think.,...well hehe ill havta have em cuz i aint paying 500 bux for a mechanic to do it!!!
so its not that hard......ok......hehe.... ill probably be asking whats the best way of doing it.....later maybe cuz its not that nice outside yet.....hardest part for me is i dont have a lift so jackstands will do...is it possible?

icice9 04-11-2003 04:18 PM

oh yeah... have the car up on jackstands , disconnect the starter, clutch slave cylinder and anything else connected to the tranny.. remove the drive shaft and take out all the bell hosuing bolts. and before you take out the transmission mount make sure you have a jack supporting the transmission. oh i forgot you need to take out your shifter.. thats pretty simple.. then after you take out the cross memeber that supports the transmission its a matter of pulling the transmission away from the car and lower it with your floor jack.. oh one more thing.. if your planning on taking out your flywheel i sudjest you get an impact gun to take out the bolts.. having an impact gun will make your job a lot easier..

Skully 04-11-2003 05:13 PM

ok cool ill do that one day
they said support the engine too since it saggs back and can break the mounts....
thx

robertpark 04-12-2003 06:20 PM

Skully 04-12-2003 06:29 PM

HEY I WAS GONNA DO THAT LOL
i have this huge ass lot with lots of those bricks.....so i was gonna jack it up....
did u jack the front put some under....jack the back put some under....and so on till u get it high???!! good idea ill prolly do that too

oh also is the driveshaft hard to disconect?

robertpark 04-12-2003 07:22 PM

One brick @ a time and when i got them all on one brick stuck stuff under the jack and then did it all over agin. its 2 high bricks in the frount 1 brick high in the back. also u might wanna make shure ur e-brake holds good as u have to put a lot of trust on it. i wasnt scared but my friend was so :p Im going to do it soon agin and this time sand and brush on bed liner and install Frame rails go over your existing frame rails to add strength. http://znzx.com/specials.htm

-btw how did icice9 get his car next to his username w. 5 posts... i been savein to do that lol

icice9 04-12-2003 08:06 PM

oh my gawd!!!! that looks totaly unsafe!!! think you should get a set of jackstands... ive heard some pretty bad storries where the car or a van fell and killed someone... using bricks is totaly "ghetto" dont do it unless you have some kind of death wish....

robertpark 04-12-2003 10:58 PM
