Cam timing

I searched on this topic for over an hour and I am still stumped. My zxt is lacking on power.I checked ignition timing with the tps unplugged and verified 24 deg btdc with a timing gun.

I cleaned all of the electrical connectors ect.I then went on to check my cam timing.I verfied the motor being set @ Tdc.Pulled the valve cover and noticed that the #1 was lining up to the grove on the cam gear.

To make a long story short.Should i advance the gear to the #2 mark on the cam gear?I am just confused. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

So if the #1 dot was lining up correctly, why would you want to change it?

What's your boost level at full throttle? What's your a/f ratio at full boost / WOT?

I am running 10lbs of boost.Fuel pressure is normal.I just found the "How to rebuild book that i dug out.It states to line the cam gear to the #2 position on the gear to advance the cam. This is supposed to correct the chain stretch.

Normal fuel pressure is great... but what's your a/f ratio? At 10psi, you might be leaning out. Have you tried turning it back down to stock boost levels to see how it acts? As for the chain... it's pretty freaking rare to actually have the chain stretch. How many miles are on the motor?

Sorry i didn't respond sooner.I just got home from work.I'll Look into turning the boost back down to stock level. The motor has 48,000 original miles on it.I am also going to do a compression check this weekend as well.I'll post back the results this weekend. Thanks for the helpful advice,

check your plugs, they will verify a/f ratio, its not exact, but while your there, check the gap. have you checked fuel pressure, if your original pump is getting weak, itll starve the motor. also check voltage (probably already did) but it can cause wacky problems. also hows the dizzy shaft wear, if its out, or the contacts are dirty, itll cause problems. check the plug wires for proper resistance as well. just some things that can go haywire even on new from the factory parts.

I just got back from driving the z.I went to Advanced auto and when i left the store the z wouldn't start. It was the coil.I have a few extra coils at home and one of the workers let me borrow one so i could drive back home. Thanks for all of the helpful advice.
