Well, I've seen a few guys use the three pods to your right for aftermarket gauges(Vernonz did that for his a/f gauge)...but as for your speedo and tach...so heavy modification might have to go into making that happen. I'm using an aftermarket gauge pod for my aftermarket gauges.

you can fit after market gauges even if they wont fit back into were the originals came out of all you do is pull out the perspex cover gaurd out and make a new gaurd out of craftwood. you have to shape it so that it fits into the dash much shallower than the original perspex gaurd you might even shape it so that it just fits plum over the gauge housing indent depending on the depth of your gauges, now all you have to do is bore the holes in it for your gauges. spray it whatever colour you like, fit your gauges into it hook them up and then affix the whole board gauges and all to the dash how you do this is up to you glue works but i wouldn't recomend it because you might have to pull it out later on, onother way i saw it done was with the little two piece fasteners you see on the bottem of cuboard doors just fix one piece to the dash and one onto the back of your gauge board with a couple of them the board will just clip in and out of place.

after looking at the orginal gauge pod ive noticed i could use it.... all i will have to do is take my dremel tool and sand it down a lil bit and take a very fine file and make it smooth. after this it will be able to take a 2 5/8 gauge.

i thought about using autometer for everything but its so dag gone expensive....... im still debating though cus ive looked in the summit magazine and they sell their white face gauges in a set for 50 bucks.( water temp,oil pressure,voltemeter) then buy a white face autometer tach with shift light.

 

does anyone know where i can get a pillar pod for a 79 280zx that holds three guages, neither autometer or motorsport has them and i ont know where esle to look

 

I've seen the '90 Miata pods work even better. I have the Z32 pillar pod right now...still have to do some cutting whereas as the Miata fits very nice. Just drill your 3/16 holes and push the clips in and your done. If I was to do it all over again I would get the Miata pillar pod, the Z32 has the same curves just too long.

As of right now the picture you see is the Z32 pod, but I got that pod and you can get the Miata pod at http://www.optauto.com/webstore/ So far pretty much every major Internet performance shop has them or can get there hands on them. As for the triple pods...those can get hard to find. Might also want to check www.alamomotorsports.com. Good luck.

The year is '90 to '98 Miata.

 

The size I used in my Z was 5/16" Autometer Ultra Lite (air/fuel) and I used a Greddy 60mm for boost. So, I had to bore out my pod to make that fit. The best white face gauge and cheapest I've seen is from Autometer and it's the Lunar Series. Here's my brother's car...he has them.

I think the a/f gauge was the easiest to hook up. With Autometer the instructions were all there and very easy to understand. It's a three wire hook up. One to ground, one to the O2 sensor wire, one to a light/power sourse. I say light, cuz when I turn the parking lights I wanted the gauge lights to come on when I turn the lights on. I wish I had a picture of the lit guage...it's very nice. But Summit Racing Catalog does.

I can post pics of mine if you want - I use GReddy gauges for boost, EGT, oil temp, and fuel pressure, mounted ina custom pod that houses my boost controller and headunit as well - I stil use the factory oil pressure gauge
