Is the Air Regulator needed?
So ive been really interested in installing a 240SX throttle body (TB) into my 83 280zx, which I should also add that ive been running it with a 81 ECU for a bit without a problem.
But my question is, is the Air Regulator (AR) necessary for the ECU (81 model ecu) to work properly. Because I know I have to install a spacer between the TB and intake Manifold neck. Problem is that the original 280zx TB comes with the AR insert and holes to mount it, but a spacer wont. So is it possible to keep it off without and issue? but another thing that comes into concern is the Idle speed Adjuster. Will I need to remove that setup also? I just want to install the TB without having to go Megasquirt or even stand alone, don't got the money for that now. Any Suggestions? Ive already have turbo MAF, im ready to bore the intake neck out, just need to know if removing the AR and the idle speed adj. will effect ECU and how the engine will run. I know most of that has to do with Emissions, but im from Texas and that's not really an issue to pass inspections. Ive done research about this bolt on mod but no results for the AR needed or not. |
no you dont need it, its for raising the idle for the ac. i have ac and dont have one. i also removed the cold start valve. the ac does drag down the idle a bit, if you really wanted you could make a pipe up that hooks infront of the tb

Okay, sweet, but what do you mean by ac? Like Air conditioner? well if I can keep my Air Regulator removed, does that mean I can remove the assembly that sits on the side of the intake manifold, otherwise im gonna have a serious vacuum hose leak. Just so I can cap up the hoses where they connect to around the intake manifold. One last thing, what kind of boot can I purchase to replace the stock MAF to TB boot. Im just gonna place a breather filter on top of the Valve cover.
