AFM Mod.. I think...

ok so I have Highly modded my '81 280zx. Engine and tranny from my rusted out '78. have butt loads of mods :) now I wanna ditch the afm box. I have an idea how but I need to know what the wires to the stock '81 afm are i.e.
there are 5 wires-1.common 2. 5 volts from ecu in 3. return voltage to ecu
4. cuttoff for fuel relay 5. air temp to ecu. this i know but i need to know the direct color match and id for each wire(so that i dont fry). my theory is to use a MAP sensor from a '87 mustang for the 3 wires for air\fuel mix to the cpu i.e. common, 5 volts to afm, and return voltage to ecu.
MAP sensor theory-yes\no? works on vaccume to a 3 wire set up common, volts in and volts return. I think i can use this to replace the afm and dump more air to the engine with out having air\fuel mix problems
Input greatly appreciated. And yes i have pix available.

I've been looking into the same thing but the problem is that a Mass Air Flow sensor runs off 12v and the Air Flow Meter off of 5v.
The afm uses a potentiometer setup while the maf uses a heated wire,(usually).

There are conversion kits out there where you can manually dial in the signal using a MAF wired to an AFM ECU via a controller,(but they aren't cheap)

The complete megasquirt unit from Al Grippo would probably be a better route.

If you do come up with a way please post,I wanna get rid of this bloody AFM too!
:D
