83 n/a wont start

I am looking at a 83 N/A this weekend. The seller says that the car wont start. It will turn over strong but wont start.
He said the pump makes a comes on and pushes fuel up to the rail but it is like the injectors are not being told to spray.
He can start the car with a bottle feeding the fuel rail and the car fires right up and does not smoke or knock. he was able to load it on his car trailer using this method.
Any ideas? Wiring, bad pump (even though it comes on), etc.

Also i plan on compression testing the engine this weekend.
What are acceptable numbers for compression on this engine?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Howdy! So if he can start the car with a bottle to the fuel rail (I am going to assume he took a hose off and dunked it into bottle of fuel??), that would say injectors are firing. I would jump the fuel pump so it is always on to begin with. I would also pop a hose off (while the pump is off) closest to the fuel rail and check if there is flow, with the pump on. Filter might be clogged. As far as compression goes, 170ish should be good.
Good luck.
