79 280ZX L28E. Some questions about adding power

So since I have a curse where I can’t leave anything stock I have some questions about modifying it

My Z has just been sitting around for a couple years I figured it might be time for some power adders or to start taking crap apart. Now at first glance it would seem that Nissan shat a rubber octopus all over the engine bay because there is more random vacuum lines and hoses than a nasa spaceshuttle. Hoping one of y’all has a cheap way to deal with all that.

now I love the sound of the L28. Nothing even comes close to how a naturally aspirated L series sounds but seeing how there still somehow isn’t a cheap way to twin cam these engines despite the car being around for like 40 years then I’m gonna have to eventually go the boosted route if I want to keep up with the minivans at the traffic lights.

so what are these engines good for? I got a 79 L28E which I think has the good head and piston combo but I’m not 100% sure. Are the bottom ends strong on these motors or are they made out of powdered glass like a mazdaspeed 3? I’d hope a person would be able to squeeze an easy 550hp out of a 2.8 inline 6 but if that’s not even close to possible then let me know lmao

im willing to spend some money but not “$1700 for a nismo horn button and $65,000 for a OS giken head” type of money if you catch my drift
