Stock Wheel Weight?
Hey guys,
I've been wondering for awhile what my stock 14x6 6-spoke aluminums weigh. I remember when I put new tires on them a while ago, after pulling the tires off, they weighed almost nothing! I figured I'd need lightweight Panasports or something when I start racing in ITS, but the stockers sure are light. I'm assuming they're cast aluminum, unless Nissan did yet another thing right and forged them [unlikely?]. If someone could weigh them, or turn me to a place that has the information, I would greatly appreciate it. Heck, why not add the weights of the Turbo's 15" wheels, and any others you can think of that came as factory equip on the 280ZX. Again, it's appreciated in advance. -Dave-O |
The 6-spokes weigh 13 LBS. and are the lightest stock wheels that ever came on the Zs.

Excellent. Drew, you're the man. Thanks bro.

I dunno how much they weigh, but the last time I had my stock 15" turbo wheels off, they weighed a freakin' ton!

Here you go guys... http://www.superhonda.com/tech/wheel_weights.html
Scroll down to the "Stock Wheel Weights" section and look for Datsun. According to that the '81 Turbo wheels weighed 17 LBS. haha that sucks. |

That's crazy additional rotating mass that these brakes weren't designed to handle. I believe the 82-83 turbo wheels were a little lighter than the 81 turbo honeycomb wheels, but I could be wrong. The 14" 6 spoke wheels were always the best cheap option in autoX because of their light weight. *EDIT* Oh! Nevermind. Looks like they have the '82/'83 turbo wheels at 14lbs each, a full 3 pounds lighter than the '81 turbo wheels. That's not bad for a 15" wheel only adding 1 lb for an inch of diameter. *EDIT* |

Different size tires and brands do have different weights. You can't accurately compare wheel weights if both have tires on them... unless you just want to compare overall weight. That still does not give you the weight of the wheel itself.
My Enkei 92's are 15s and they seem very light weight even with the tires on them. Anyone weighed those types of wheels? |
I'll just have to pick up one of my spare swastika's and put it on the scale.

check out this link for a slew of tire info, especialy answers the "what wheel will fit my Z?" questions...
FYI the site lists the 82-83 Turbo wheel at 14lbs, 6 spokes at 13 lbs and everything inbetween and over...I love it cause I got both of those in addition to my Carol Shelby 14X7 honeycombs 's :D http://kmhafer.datsun510.com/wheelFAQ.htm |
