Rims

Guys from what I have seen, we are very limited on options.

Any special place besides our normal Z parts dist?

I have seen rims I like they are similar to ones on a Pont GTA, Buick GNX, they have a many lines and must be hard to clean but I've seen them on the Zs and they may be OEMs.

I have the iron cross and hate them.

Our options for the stock lug patern & offset are quite limited. That's why a lot of S30 / S130 drivers get wheel spacers w/ honduh lug patern... then the options are much more plentiful. There is also a 5 lug spacer swap, but a bit more difficult to deal w/ the install.

Actually there are several companies that make aftermarket wheels for our cars.

Where are you located?

www.Centerlinewheels.com still makes wheels specifically for our cars.

Go to the website, do a search by vehicle. Scroll to the bottom for "Z-Car (Datsun)" and see if there's anything you like!

Unfortunately, they're all FWD offset. ie. 30mm to 50mm positive offset. We have 0mm offset cars although you can get away with +10mm to +15mm and even a little more if you roll the fenders.

I like a dish on my wheels anyway... but choices are becoming scarce so the "easy" fix is an adapter as has been mentioned previously.

If you like the old school look, try:

Or the original:

The wheels I think you're talking about are "Enkie Mesh" style wheels. The only OEM wheel that was close to this design was the '81 Turbo "Honeycomb" wheels.

There are a lot of Enkie Mesh knock-offs available on Craigslist/ePray/Junk Yards, but I would verify the bolt pattern and off-set before buying.

Wheels for the original Mustang's up to about '68 are also the same 4x4.5 bolt pattern and 0mm offset which is why companies like Centerline still make Z Car wheels, they're the same as the early Mustang which is really their target market, ie. Muscle Cars.

hmmm, i knew about our offset of 0 as ideal, but i didnt know they were mostl made as FWD so that blows....and i myself like haveing a nice lip on the rim.

Well, the original "FWD" moniker is not really applicable now, even though I and a lot of other people still use it. Since +30mm +40mm offset has become the "standard" on new cars, it's really not correct to call it a FWD offset since all of the few RWD cars left now use the same "standard".

That's what I thought. Can anyone tell me about the five lug adapter? What makes them so hard? Don't they just bolt on to the 4 lug?

I like some of those rims. I just want a more modern rim. I like a simple clean 5spoke that have the lines like our Zs.

SHADY280 06-04-2007 06:44 AM

bleach has the 5 lug adapter, seems to like them, and rim choice is abundant. when you go to 5 lug, you can get an rim you want.

snwbrderphat540 06-04-2007 10:40 AM

i dont like spacers or adapters lol, i just want my dished rims with 3-4 inch lips that just down right look sick....

Ryan280 06-04-2007 04:53 PM

I know the off set would change due to the spacer but the diff could be made in the rim offset.

Where can I get them and how much?

Thanks!

Thing is now they are for a Honda bolt pattern. How is the offset going to work?

For sure I'll get them.

Bleach 06-05-2007 09:18 AM

I have 5-lug adaptors. They are 45mm thick.
Mine are two-piece. One of the allen head bolts that holds the two pieces together stripped out in the head so now my adaptor in the back is stuck on the car. I'm not happy.

I'm doing a 5-lug swap. But these adaptors work good otherwise.

Like this.

Ryan280 06-05-2007 01:41 PM

Where did you get the 5 lug?

What is so hard about the adapter mounting?

I want the lines on the Z to match the rims. Though I have the 2+2 I am modding the body a bit to make the qtr windows longer to follow the roof line like coupe window does. Oh no chrome too and windshield and door windows will be flush like modern cars. So rims would be the final touch.

snwbrderphat540 06-05-2007 02:30 PM

modern motorsports yet again sells the Z31 bolt on 5 lug adapters.... just look on that sight its prettty damn awsome for that kinda of stuff. and good prices. im gonna get my rear brake conversion from there and tehn a front 5 loug conversion i thinks
