Replacing ignition switch help

I just got a new ignition switch and I am trying to switch them out in my 79 2+2 but when I was trying to remove the old ignition switch from the column itself I found that there were screws I could unscrew with just a phillips but two I couldn't remove because they were smooth on top, anybody know how to remove the ignition switch?

You have to take a dremal and slot the screws to take them out. or very carefully cut between the 2 halfs of the clamp that hold it on and cut thought the screw.

You are replacing the plastic switch on the back, or the key tumbler?

Either way, you don't really HAVE to remove the entire steering lock mechanism, but it's much easier to replace once out. Check this: https://www.zdriver.com/forums/showt...ghlight=tracer

I am replacing everything, steering column lock and all, I spent a good amount of money on a new old stock ignition switch so i'm using all of it.

I remember tediously using a pair of duck nosed vise grips on the bolts. It took me almost an hour, but I got them out. And put the ignition switch in another Z. A dremel does sound easier though. lol
