Paint Color

I have an 83' turbo that I bought for $500 and needed some body work. I just brought it to my friend who will be rebuilding the whole car as far as body work goes. He told he would do it all for $3,500 and this includes any custom paint job. I thought that was a great price. Any ways I have the choice of any type of paint job I want and I just wanted your opinion on what color I paint my car. Right now its silver/blue two tone and I wanted to go with a single color. He suggested a black with a mettalic blue clear coat. If any one has any suggestions that would be great.
Thanks
Rob

I like the blue and silver color scheme! But that is my opinion, considering that is what I am going to paint my '82 280zx! Anyway there is a lot of color choices that look good on those cars! I bet black with metallic blue clear would look pretty dope man. And also great steal on that 280zx! And it runs like a top?

Hey you mean the front highback seats that are currently in your ZX now. With the blue and silver color scheme? If so I wish, but I am strapped right now. But I will be getting overtime starting in June! Anyway if so how much do you want for them? And what kind of shape are they in?

Normally don't like black but for some reason the ZX coupe seems to look great in that colour.

They're in almost perfect shape... one little spot on the passenger seat. Looks like a small burn or something. I am not sure how much they sell for. Scroll down to third item from the bottom Mine are in better condition than that, but I dont see going over that amount of $250. Make me an offer I can't refuse As soon as I get my Zed back, I will take a picture of the spot and post it. Otherwise the rest of the cloth/vinyl seat backs are PERFECT. I have a couple of black racing seats I am going to put in... Just waiting to get the part that sets them in place.

Yeah that sounds great man! But hold on to them for a while. I am really interested in them, I need them for my 2-tone blue and silver interior. I am broke right now. Also is there any chance of you moving to Arizona? That way I won't have to pay the high #ss shipping price! He he just a thought. Anyway I will let you know what to offer, and when I can get them from you!

Hey thanks for the replies. I looked at something that he painted with the black/blue paint job. It was real nice, it looked gloss black but when the sun hit it it turned to a metallic dark blue. But Im still having trouble deciding

funny you should mention... I am trying to talk my wife into us moving back to phoenix! We lived there for about a year (based at Luke AFB) She has to pass her Dental National Board first though... either way, I'll hold on to the seats bro... unless someones doing the paint scheme you are going for, I don't think anyone would make much use for them

Thanks man, I appreciate it. Yeah it seems most people don't want the blue and silver color scheme. But I think it looks great on a Z! I guess I am a sucker for the old school Transformers! Yeah you guessed it, Bluestreak, that is the name of my car! Anyway how long will it be till her dental thing is done? And thanks again for holding on to the seats! Talk at you later man!

Sweet. Man, there's no telling about her dental boards... Right now, she is only licenced to work here in Alabama. Due to the new baby, everything has gotten put on hold. I think the Bluestreak scheme is cool, I havent decided what color I am going to go with... I was playing around with the paint tool on a 240Z on Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3 found one color I liked alot... but I REALLY want a carbon fiber hood. some colors don't look right with a CF hood though. We'll see

Wow man there is a 240Z on the Tokyo extreme racer? Far out that is cool, and as for paint for Z's. There is lots of colors out there that would look tight on a Z. Just depends upon the person. And thanks for the compliment bro'! Will let you know about the seats. I have to catch up on things around here. Should be starting overtime in June. Can't wait more money that I can put aside for a rainy day, and my Z!

assimilated420- What you said about going fast before looking good, I completely agree. The only reason Im doing this stuff to my car is because almost every body part needed to be replaced, so it needs to be painted. I was just going to spray paint it flat black myself, but he's said he would do any custom paint job with out having to pay him for labor. As soon as the body is done every penny I have is going into performance.

3500 seems a little to much to be spendin for a paint job and it doesn't look like your car needs much body work either.

Depends on the paint job I guess. I've seen paintjobs going for $10-$15K! And thats not including any body work, that's just surface prep and paint. We're talking color changing schemes and stuff like that though.

$3500 for a basic solid color is pretty high though if body work is minimal. Take it to Earl Shibe for $350. That's a deal if you don't mind painted weather stripping

ya, I think I would just try to repair the original paint, like sanding away that oxidized clearcoat and applying some new clearcoat and touch up the paint and so and so. I think the original paint is alright

eh, maybe I'm wrong though. I just took a second look and some part on the car it look sbad

Is anyone here good at photo chopping? I was wondering about paint schemes for my car and I was thinking solid silver or solid silver with a black hood (opposite of the 81 turbo) If anyone is can u let me know how it would look or if u have time mess with colors. and as far as my interior wut do u all think about all silver inside with silver trim and a black dash and consol? I might get to drive my Z sooner than I thought I have a 1980 that I can't drive because its smashed so I'm thinkin about pulling the motor and putting in my other car and priming it black to drive until I can afford 3K for paint from House of Customs. I'm starting the prep work for it now I spent all day stripping the old oxidized black to prime. let me know wut eveyone thinks about the colors....

Thanks

House of Customs; that explains the $3k paintjob. The saying "You get what you pay for" holds true here.

If it were me, I would pull the motor to get my car on the road. But then I'd probably never get it into the paint shop if I did that either though. I primered my car black and I think it looks bitchin'. Very stealth like.

Juggalo280ZX seems to do a bit with photoshop, you might ask him.

Its not gonna get done very soon but I'm trying to get some ideas now. I'm getting ready to put the engine back in my 1981 280zx and drive that primered until I get the 80 done then I'm gonna start on the 81. thanks anyways guys

My car needed more then just paint. It needed floor pans, hood, quarters, front valance, fenders and a few other things. If the stock paint was fine I would have just left but I need to paint anyway.
