Manual climate control is nice!
I finally got around to finishing the manual climate control swap on my Z. When I bought my Z, the PO had cut up every heater hose, and removed the heater core (as I found out when I took the heater box out). Took about a month to do the swap since I didn't get the right parts from Nissan twice, and the fact that the dealerships here suck nuts. I finished just in time as it's starting to get pretty cold here for So Cal standards. The low temps dipping into the 30's now.
Anyway, it's sweet to finally have control over when my fan works, and now my heater works! Before the stupid thing wouldn't turn on unless it was below 50 degrees. Summer time I was stuck rolling the windows down instead of having the vents work. So yeah, I'm just happy my DD got a little more comfortable.
About the only other thing I did was install a crack free dash I've had sitting at my parents' place for 2 years, and turned the boost up a couple psi to 16. My AFRs are holding steady at 10.6-11.2 during a full throttle pass, so I'm pretty sure I'll be alright.

w00t! I know how that is. When I did my turbo swap I also swapped in the ACC from the donor car... I was all excited to use it. Then found out how temperamental it was. Swapped my manual back in last year before the MSA show... love it!
Yeah for reals man. I was so glad when I flipped the switch to "on" and the fan actually turned on.
Not one time did my ACC do that. I had to keep sliding the switch between off and on multiple times before it'd work for maybe 30 seconds or so. That auto climate is worthless! It's also nice to not have to use the transmission's heat as a heater anymore either.
Only thing left to do is reinstall my a/c compressor and a few lines so I can get my a/c working, although that'll be a project for another day. For now I just want to enjoy driving my Z as it sucked using the 510 as a DD again. (4 speed + 4.11 rear end = crappy mpg)

I ran across a how-to web page a couple years ago (I can't find it at the moment)... but when I did my swap it was quite simple:
-Remove dash, stereo console, & dash crossbar support.
-Remove ACC center control unit & fan unit (leave the center a/c box)
-Connect manual control unit & fax box.
-All main harness connections are the same... just click em back in.
**Pay attention to where the vac hoses connect**
Bam!

All the electrical plugs are color coded, and the few connections for climate control are specific sizes. When you pull the manual setup, leave all the port vac lines alone & only disconnect the long lines that run from the center control box to the fan / vent box & manifold vac source line (those are really the only things you need to mark).
GOT 'ER DONE! Now to get the dash back in and fire it up to see if everything works. The only way to this (not literally) is to have the heater and blower units. Take one out, put one in, hook up two hoses and two connectors and zippy zoom you're done. All in all I spent more time running for clamps and window sealer than doing the job. Plus I was able to clean out all of the leaves and 25 yrs worth of debris.
