harness mounting 79 2 seater
ok I want to buy some 3 or 4 point harnesses preferably takata because I like the green, but I'll presently come to the point, will 4 points or even 3 points mount to the shock towers? I have tokico reds and tokico hp if that makes a difference. I'd rather not blow 500 on a scca roll bar with harness bar if I can I'm trying to save for a SR20

Check out SHADY280's setup (he will probably chime in soon). He's got race seats w/ 4 or 5 pt harnesses (very comfy... I've ridden in it). :D

yup mount to the strut towers and the seat belt outer mount and either drill and reinforce a mount or use the lower seat mount that is reinforced already.

ok sweet thanks should have em in by january assuming nothing big comes up with the maintenace

Doesn't the rear mount need to be higher than your shoulders to prevent the seatbelt from crushing you down into the seat if you crash?
|
Yes that is correct. Mine are level which is still acceptable. I'm also going to revise this design once my thumb is finished therapy. I'm building a strut tower brace that has belt mounts that are straighter with the seat. Gotta build it really strong to support the load tho
|
So the rear strut towers are fine as long as it's lower than the height of your shoulders then.
|
Level or higher is preferred. If it's slightly down no biggie. It's if the belt go down quite a bit that it is the problem. Mine are almost level the way my seats are. Maybe a degree or two down. I also mounted the seats to the stock mounts minus the sliders. I sit quite low in the car even tho I'm 6 foot

My concern is the bolt shearing in a bad front/rear crash or getting rear ended and having the strut tower bend forward/down and loosening up/crushing you.
|
yeah thats why im building the strut bar, 3 bolts and thick steel and a good sized tube to give more support. this is better than my stock belts tho that stopped locking and allowed movement when i gave them a quick pull (failed autox inspection). i tried rebuilding them, but nothing looked wrong, just wouldnt work correctly, so i switched to 4 pt. belts.

schroth install diagrams for cars with rear seat say to run one or both of the straps down to the rear lap belt mounting points. they also say that 45 degrees is the lowest angle from the seat back that you can run safely or it will compress your spine.
the latter point makes sense to me, discussion time. |
