Well I went for a gas trip last night and long story short, a Chinese girl in a RX8 side swipe me as I was signaling and changing lanes. Well of course nothing but a dent on her tank of a car and the Z well... lets see: right door no longer can be opened, huge circle of paint missing, and front right fender completely crushed in. So I was wondering how much do you guys think this bodywork will cost? BTW I want to know because I was just about to order my Suspension parts at my friends house when this happend, if itll cost too much to repair then....

Did she not have insurance??? Either have a shop do the repairs at the cost of her insurance, or if they let you, take a check & do the repairs yourself.... Please tell me you got her contact / insurance info!

BTW... IT'S REALLY REALLY HARD FOR US TO GIVE YOU A COST ESTIMATE W/O SEEING THE DAMAGE....

luckily it sounds like overall damage/repairs wouldn't be too bad if it only messed up the door and fender, but like nismo said, didn't you get her insurance info?

Nope. Yeah i didnt, she had called this real big money baller asian dude in a brand new SLK, and hes all like "you can call off the cops and ill have my friend with a shop take care of her car" And when the cop got there he said I was at fault just because I was the one changing lanes even tho she was clearly speeding and failed to brake or slow down. SO just when Im about to say f*** it and just take the ticket and have insurance deal with her car the asian dude says "dont worry about it Ill take care of her car and you take car of yours! And then this dude has the balls to call me today while im in school and ask this: "do you want to know the estimate?" I ask whats the deal, man? you said you werent gonna bother me with her car! And he wants me to pay $2500 for the damage to her car which was nothing but a dent A DENT!!!! WTF! how does that come to $2500!??! or pay him 250$ for the insurance. I asked who was gonna pay my damage and then he says "but it was your fault". He has been calling my poor a** every effing hour!!! well just turned off the phone, and since theres no police report im ok right? damnnnnnnnn my Z looks so badddddddddd. You guys want pics?

So the cops came & didn't do a police report? Wha? It's your word against hers since it was only you & her there. ALWAYS GET INSURANCE INFO! Especially since the police were there...

BIG thing here is you proceeded to join the traffic WHILE it was not safe to do so...she could have been driving upside down for all it matter( blowing it out of proportion here) it is YOU who caused the accident...thats why it will be your fault sorry to say man. what the police know - you changed lanes causing the accident...they wont go trough hastle to prove she was 5 miles over the limit and didnt brake...
the police work seems shoddy on this one...and dont ever leave the scene of accident without settling everything first...
my dad did the same thing (just exchanged info) and the lady who hit him was at fault...well the lady went and filed incident by herself and told them a story and my dad (barely knows any english) was ****ered.
pics would help...

also they can file a claim against you any time now...if he feels like he wants you to pay for the damage..you will have to most likly no matter if the cop took notes or not...trust me they remember real good!

Naw, the girl couldnt speak a word of english and was really panicky, took her a whole minute to climb out of her car. BUT they were definitley trying to take advantage of me: a high school kid all by himself. The first thing she did though was ask to borrow my phone saying she wanted to call the cops but then called the big money asian dude and he come with his SLK and another dude in a IS300, and they were so cool and casual about everything that it seemed odd. Oh and I forgot to mention the guy claimed he was a cop, hahahaa. Again trying to scare a poor lil kid. But see I dont know what they are planning now since Ive turned off my phone. For all I know it could have been another asian I was talking to at different times with one being the guy in the SLK and one being the one who said he was a cop on the phone! ( I just realized the guy that keeps calling probably wasnt the same guy in the SLK! I thought it was tho! They just sound alike! DAMMIT!)

what I would do if this happened to me and i was in your situation now...
go to the police station, tell them what happened, tell them that the guy said he will take care of it but now is harrasing you, tell them he said he was a POLICE OFFICER (YOU CANNOT IMPERSONATE A POLICE OFFICER!!!)...you gotta do something it could lead to more trouble...

Thats all you've gotta do. Go to the station and tell them that you got in an accident and the lady said she was calling the police. Her friend showed up and told you he was a cop. You guys then came to an agreement to take of damages by yourselves. If you've got the guys contact information then submit it to the police and tell them he's harassing you. Calling you non stop to the point where you had to turn your phone off. The police will do their thing and something tells me he's not going to be harassing you anymore. It's on the lady you were in the accident with to handle this anyways. Not the big baller in the SLK. He's got no reason to be calling you and has no grounds for it either.

Yeah like everyone says go to the cops. Also if they keep bugging you, you will not have to a pay a cent until the woman herself files a police report or comes after you for the money. Like everyone else said, this man had nothing to do with it, and if he said he was a cop he screwed himself over. RX-8 probably needed new paint or something so she hit you to try and get a free paint job out of it. Even still you shouldn't have to pay anything out of your pocket anyway, that's the reason you have insurance.

How does a lagit cop afford an SLK anyway????

they can up here, they get paid well. prolly the same down there, only thing was he aint no cop. a real cop wouldve handled that alot different, trust me i work for them and have lots of friends that were cops. in a situation like that they follow the book and dont tell you that they are a cop to save face and lawsuits.

Damn thats what I was thinking to do too, but my parents said to not worry about it and let it go! Im worried they might be pulling something behind my back! But w/e its been 24hrs now so unless they already did do a police report, its too late now. The phone calls have stopped too. Oh still no pics but for sure today, but I did go to a body shop. Here it is: $1,500 sumthing dollars! The guy said I need a new fender!!! wtf! I told him you can just take it off and bend it back but hes like you need a new fender and said itll cost $329 for it. I then looked it up in the VB catalogue when I got home: $129 HAAHH!!! WHY IS EVERYONE TRYING SCREW ME OVER?! Because Im a kid?!?! Oh and I asked about the rust on my roof and what he said scared the crap out of me. He said ill need a new windshield cause the original will break when removed and theres a chance that if the rust is bad the whole roof can crumple and they wont be able to put the windshield back on and Ill have to drive without one! and a bunch of other depressing stuff like that. Total with roof fix : 3,200 sumthing dollars! So what can I do!??!?! Man, I was just about to get brand new Tokicos...:089: :089: :089: :089:

Ok got pics guys! Just my bro is uploading them and trying to resize them first! I got close ups of where my right door hits the front fender and keeps it from opening, I THINK its the door thats bent out, but the guy at the body shop says its the fender thats twisted in. Ill let you guys,my fellow Z'ers, decide. Also pics of the holes of rust in my roof!!!YAAAAAAY! (yeah the rust isnt from the accident but I REALLY need help on this I dont know what to do!!!!! I dont want my windshield and roof to fall apart (thats what the guy said)!!!!)

A) It will crack if they dont know what they are doing when removing the windshield...i am not a glass man and i removed and put one into mine without any problems
B) they are not trying to screw you over because you are a kid, they will screw everyone over the same, its how they make money
c)how bad is the damn rust on the roof...it would have to be PRETTY DAMN BAD for it to crumple...
d) I dont know about there, but here car is ILLEGAL unless it has a windshield so you would not drive it around without one (its part of the safety equipment) , plus common sense would tell you not to drive without a damn windshield!!! do you like a rock in your head???

take some GOOD pictures of the damaged areas...have lots..post them here...and we can tell you rough estimates about the whole deal!

my buddy drove his restored scamp i painted home 30 minutes without a windsheid, he just wore my racing helmet, thats legal?. the fender i can get for 120 canadian. too bad your in florida, i could must likely fix it for 2000 cdn including a complete new paint job!!!

Did the cost of the fenders include them installing them? Another thing may be that they are quoting you actual Nissan fenders and not reproduction like what VB sells.

And finally, if they are so underconfident in their work that they cant get a damn windshield out without KNOWING they're going to break it then you're better off taking your car else where.

Now dont take this the wrong way, but you sound like you might come off as kind of a push over. Just cause you're young doesn't mean you have to come off that way. (just judging from some of your posts in this thread. Again though, not trying to rag on you). If you think someone is trying to take advantage of you, call them out on it. Most of the time they will come clean. If they dont and you still think you're getting ripped off, then go somewhere else. Estimates are almost always free, so get a few of them. And get a feel for the people while they're doing your estimate. If the price is good and the people seem competent and give off a good vibe, then that's where you should take your car. And if a shop will give you an estimate without so much as a picture of the damage then DON"T do business with them. That tells you right there that they're trying to rip you or themselves off ;)

i would just post a listing in craigs list for 280zx parts and see if you can get a fender a door. they may not be the same color but it might help save some money. as far as the windshield goes i have taken a fair amount and have never had one crack on me. as long as they do it right and not force anything you should be fine. sounds like you should take it to another place to get it looked at.. good luck to ya

Yeah I think J has a point on that one. No offense, but stand up for yourself. I wouldn't take that crap at your age, or any other for that matter. And after the accident, I would have called the cops, instead of her. Of course she called her playboys instead. Besides calling the cops, is the right thing to do, in an accident. Regardless of who is at fault. They will listen to both of your storys. And then try and determine who caused the accident. And if those pricks would have showed up, and said they were cops. I would have said, let's see a badge. Call their bluff for sure, and if they weren't tell them to go the f#$k where they came from. And shove it, they have no business here. Especially because they were nowhere near the scene. Or at the cause of the accident.

And as for the shop that gave you that ridiculous, quote, and estimate. Take our advice and go somewhere else. Especially about the whole, oh you need a new windshield garbage. And also that BS about. Oh if you don't fix that rust on your roof. It will cave in on you. I would have been like whatever man, tell somebody that is stupid that. But it won't work on me. That tells you right there, that they don't know jack sh#t! But yeah it is good to shop around for estimates. And if it feels good, then it is probably a decent one. But if you get bad vibes, immediately go and look somewhere else.

All aside, this kind of thing really burns my insides. Just trying to get you to better yourself, and grow some backbone. And consume more knowledge. We can help you out with that man. That is what we are here for. But do not be offended by this. I am trying to give you the things you need to survive in this world. Believe me I have been through a lot of crap. As I am sure other people on this site have too. It will work out though bro', I have faith in you.

Yeah, I thought about that statment alot after I first made it, I supose a police officer could afford nice things, not all cops are entry level cops....my bad. Hey, sometimes we all speak without thinking first.

Here now look at the front of the door, see how where I got hit went in and atop of that the door bumps out? I think thats why the panels meet when I try to open my door, but the body shop dude said it was cause the fender was "twisted" but as you can see the only damge on the fender is on the flare! and the rest of the fender looks fine! What do you guys think?

Really though the damage doesnt bother me that much, the rust does and so does the door not opening, if I only knew which panel to work on I could get it to open again...
