did i grab the right betty module?
 

hey i grabbed a betty module from a z at the yard,at least i think it's betty. it was in the right location to be her,in the jack compartment at the rear of the car. can someone help me identify which year this is from,if it's the correct part?

Ok, that item pictured does not look familar. I don't think that is the voice warning system from a 280ZX. What year Z did you pull it from? What year is YOUR z?

um thats what i'm trying to figure out,i'm retrofitting it to another japanese car. i have a 72 datsun pickup as soon as i pull it from the weeds at my buddies,but it will have z parts. :unibrow: this one might be from an 82,i can't for the life of me remember. it was in the right spot.i'm pretty sure it was a turbo car though. def a z of course. if it wasn't pouring freezing rain and it wasn't saturday,i think he still has the car out there. the bracket is missing because i made up a different mounting system.

my parts car had a betty also. i could pull it for yah if you find out thats the wrong thing.

yea that would work. i appreciate it. at least i'll know what year so i can get a diagram. it's going in an 86 honda accord hatchback is what it's going in. i used to have the diagram,. so i know i have all the correct inputs,including the one in the speedometer head. i have the carpet out in preparation for an extensive alarm system, so i was going to run all my wires to a central location while i'm in wiring mode. i have to run wires from the individual door switches anyway. as well as the cluster. best to do it one time. i had put one of these systems in my datsun 310 gx in i believe 91, so i kind of miss the lady voice. as far as remembering what al i did to make it work,i can't remember crap from that long ago.

mines an 82 2+2 non turbo. honestly though, i have no clue where to find betty. lol. and do you want me to cut the pigtail so you have some wires to work with? or do you want me to just unplug it?

Voice warning box is located in the spare tire area, top of the wheel well...

yea get as much wire as you can. i might have the diagram for that one. i need the wire to hook it back up. whats wierd is the one i got came from a turbo and it's in the spare tire area just like yours. mine is going in a non z car so i need the pig tail to make everything work. whats wierd is it has what look like level controls. i dk what else it could be,i don't think it's a cruise box i have a cruise box somewhere. it was right at the top of the spare tire well right on top of the wheel well area. it's oem i know that much, well if it isn't betty the only other thing i can think of is it's some kind of unit for the radio. i would like to figure out what the hell it is though.

thanks for all the help guys. if i've spent the last six months looking for a wiring diagram for the wrong unit i'm going to feel like a complete idiot.

well i've also spent a year and a half making a manifold to put 72 510 sss carbs in there too. the manifold looks badass, will be better when i finally get then finished mocked up and installed. i need to send them to z therapy with some moola first. at least i'm keeping it all old school asian. this is the old one with the 2 litre iron block, at least it's not a civic. :) :) :048:

it's actually bitchin betty,that came from the air force. the aircraft that calmly tell you warning warning....all the way to impact. somehow it doesn't suprise me that nissan put a voice in the z that sounds like a fighter plane. hmmmmmmm that wouldn't appeal to us guys would it?

ok grabbed another one, the 83 turbo car is the 280 z correct? that's what it's out of. the metal box held in with two 10mm bolts on the back side of the brace inside of the spare tire/jack compartment on the passenger side? now i need to find a wiring diagram is all.

wierd i saw a thread on another forum,i wish i could find it too,it was a step by step on retrofitting betty and it was an all metal box just like this one. i don't know what else in there could have this many wires coming out of it unless it's the control box for the adjustable suspension. but there was nothing else in the spare tuire well but this one and i don't know of anything else that has this many wires coming from it there.

ok went back to the junkyard today, took pictures of where that module came from, i double checked in there,nothing else is up there,this is the only box in that spare tire well. i also checked for cut wires,in case someone removed it,and there are none. so this has to be in,came from an 83 280 zx turbo.

doesn't that gold box have something to do with the compass? i think that the pots are for adjusting the compass or something, or maybe i am thinking of the z31.

naa this is a different one, this one doesn't have the pots on it,it's just a much smaller gold box with a lot of wires coming from it. was behind that brace in the passenger side rear wheel well. i also heard in 84's it is sometimes above the computer in the passenger side kick panel. so dammmit i need to look again. this was an 83 turbo,but maby it was a late 83 . oh the box also said tokiko on it,i hope it's not a cruise or a suspension control box,this one had that electronic suspension

Wait... you got the box from this car? The car in the pic is a 300ZX not a 280ZX. The blue Z car in front of this gray car is a 280zx. That might be your problem. :D

hmmm well i thought it wa a zx,it was an 83,i checked the plate on the door sill. so thats not betty? the other one with the pots came out of the blue car.

Go back to page one of this thread... look at my post w/ the two pics. Now find a 1982-1983 280ZX and get the black box from the top of the right rear wheel well. Don't go looking through a 300zx for one, don't go looking through a 240z... Just find a 280zx.

i'll just get the one from snowbird, he doesn't have any more z cars out there. those are the only two. they are hard to find around here. this is getting humerous, i can make one work with a wiring diagram,i just can't find the stupid thing on the car. of course all the z guys here would all go crazy trying to find the pop up headlight control box on an accord. bwhahahaha . i guess to each their own, i used to remember all these different models years ago,been a long time. last time i had a datsun i used to have hair. i do appreciate all the help though.

it's actually an 81 probably an early 82 was back at the yard today, 81 280zx, said 81 on the door sill plate. too bad it's in a yard the body could be saved. just all tore up as far as the interior, engine is still in it and tranny and rear end. someone who had a lot of parts could save it.

well i found one said 81 but it's def betty, maby thats the early 82 or something now i need a wiring diagram i can make sense of or just which wires go to what is all probably an 82 diagram. i've heard on some of the earliest bettys that they spoke in a french accent. this may very well be one. oh even the rubber band that drives the record is in good shape

ok mystery here both door warnings work and the parking brake warnings work but not the fuel or the headlights

ok figured out the lights have to leave power connected to the light wire and disconnect power to the main power wire then ground the drivers side door wire. then you get the BOOP lights on!! heres a thread at my home site with a short video. still trying to figure out the fuel one, i belive the way it's wired it needs to sense a change froma positive voltage to a negative state. without the switch in the fuel sender grounded, it would show +12 volts, then when the switch grounds it would show a - http://www.3geez.com/forum/showthread.php?t=64297

ok this is a copy of my post at zcar.com
she's physically mounted in the car, i made special brackets to mount her behind the inside quarter panels. this is a large heavy module and you need to use the original brackets to mount it, i modified that to make it work. normally you run the speaker wires from the left speaker right through the box, it interupts the speaker for the warning, the problem is the warning isn't very loud. on the circuit board of the box is a relay that switches from radio to voice warning,every time it says something, the coil on this relay is 8 volts while operating, not 12 but close enough to operate a bosch relay. i tapped off of the relay coil and now i have a bosch relay that closes a circuit every time betty talks. i had already installed a 4 pole double throw 12 volt relay in the car for my old wired cell phone. when this relay is energized , it switches both of my front speakers from normal stereo operation, to mono operation with a single speaker level input. i am going to run the speaker level out from betty,through a small powered EQ to boost the volume level, then the output of the eq will drive the front speakers when switched. when i get a switched signal from betty ,it turns on the EQ and switches the front speakers over to it. then auto matically switches them back,should have a nice clear voice warning come out of both speakers. betty is the large box at the bottom of the pic http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/d...e/S4020338.jpg
i still have to hook up the speed sensor,the ebrake wire,and the fuel ensor wire, i have my interior mostly out anyway,since i'm wiring a massive alarm system at the moment
