Cheesy Stereo System

the guy who had my Z before me put in a cheap Kenwood Tape Deck, and looks like he "made" his own dash panel for the stereo. this thing is a beauty...

kinda embarassing really. It's a cutout piece of plastic filling the area around the head unit, and it is held up by four drywall screws. only top quality parts for my Z.

My question, is there an actual stereo installation KIT for this car? please advise.

Yes...there is!!! Now I got mine some 10 years ago, but any quality stereo shop should have a panel that fits. You may need to do a little trimming for a really good fit, but it's not that difficult to find one.

I bought one off eBay a few years ago. It was plastic and the "V" shape of it had a tiny 1/8" gap around both sides. It was thin and looked only OK. A theif ripped that thing out in a second but I had other straps on the CD deck. They coudn't get the deck out so they found my faceplate and took that!

Anyway, from my experience I wouldn't buy thsoe plastic install kits. I had my dad help me build a thick aluminum panel that has a solid bend at the bottom and bolts to the aluminum frame of the center dash panel. It is much stronger but required some of the special aluminum working tools he has in his shop to make. Got any machine shop friends?

A friend of mine made this... http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/517219/2

Its pretty freaking cool if you ask me and it looks awesome. He also has the push button start, thats what the switches and the button are. Im thinking about getting him to make me one too.
