alright, got some probs here
I bought an msa bumper. You know the one that replaces the valence and bumper(well sort of) Well I removed the old twisted valence and stripped the bumper but I'm haveing a problem. The new msa bumper isn't going out far enough to go behind the fender. the bumper needs to be pushed back farther by 1/2-1 inch. Is there something wrong with the bumper in my car, or does this fiberglass piece need to be forced/molded on to the damn car

You must have missed all the posts about this.
Yes you have to move the bumper back a little. Make sure it is fitting snug on there too. You can losen the shock mounts and see if it shoves back a couple mm. Then take off the bumper. Loosen the little screw at the end of each bumper shock. That will release some air pressure. Put the bumper back on and fit the air dam. Once in place, shove it back a little and it'll snap around the back edges of the fender. |
thank you very much.
Now how do I bolt this thing on? |
You should just be able to drill a small hole through the fiberglass and the metal on the back edge of each side where it wraps around the fender lip. Small stainless bolt and nut and you're set.
Also, with the air dam set back and up in proper position, the hood won't open. :D So you'll need to open the hood untill it touches the bumper. Have someone mark the edge and then remove the bumper to carefully trim the fiberglass with a dremel tool. ...or do a custom fiberglass front like Skully did. |
ah, thank you. I was getting worried about the hood and fiberglass piece, but I'm also having problems with the actual bumper too. I pushed the bumper very far back so I could get the fiberglass piece around and know it interferes with the hood. I noticed there is damage to my current bumper that must have happen during an old accident. I'm going to go back to the junkyard and get another one.
I also Did a stupid thing too. I rushed and slapped this bumper on and went driving with the car. After only like 2 minutes I'm already pulled over by a cop. Forgot to install the license plate. Was given a warning. Another dumb thing, I forgot to install my airbox back on. I had taken it off a while back for whatever reason and forgot about it. I was just excited that I had the car in one piece and running again that I had to take it out btw, do you guy know if I could get my airbox to fit on a 280z. My friend has a 280z and his airbox is held together with duct tape |
If it's the stock box, it should fit. It's been awhile since I was under the hood of one.
