Whats the deal? When I start my 1982 with the antenna button set on full extention, I hear a whap, whap, whap. SOme may discribe it as a whop, whop, whop. 3 whap's or whops. It sounds like someone is hitting the side of the car three times. It happens quickly, one after the other.

When the full extension is not selected - no noise.

How can I fix this whap, whop, hitting the side of the car sound?

 

But it still extends all the way right? Mine does that too.... waaaaaaaaaaaa-wop-wop-wop. Not a big deal if it still goes up & down and doesn't catch on anything.

 

I believe it is a full extension. I pulled on it and it would not extend any further.

 

Don't pull hard... or you can kiss that antenna goodbye. Sounds like you have a normal & fully working 280zx antenna.

 

Normal and fully noisy, I mean operating antenna.

My 2006 Z has a stationary antenna and no talking lady. What a rippoff!

my 280ZXT's power antenna worked, I can't figure out how to get it working again. After I installed my headunit I can't get it to go up and down. It sucks trying to get radio stations. I can't pickup anything with it all the way down.

 

I figured that out when I first installed an aftermarket CD player. I left the antenna button in place. It was plugged in but always behind the faceplate I made. I think I had to run power to it and switched it on and off with another small switch I put under the dash.

 

Doe the 82 280zx turbo T-Tops come with power antenna...where can I get one for it?

 

All 280zx turbos came w/ power antenna... you can get one from the same places that sell all the other Z parts...

dont feel bad---the ultra modern Z31 also had that musical , lyrical eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaa...wop wop wop sound too---worked great--just a little "ethnic".....

 

I think I saw a post yesterday that said the power atenna on ebay works well.

 

I have so much to learn from you guys...when I got my 280zxt I had no idea it came with power antenna and the owner (dumb S) had no clue either. And since I was not catching anything on the after market radio installed on it I wanted to pull the antenna out. I asked him and he said just pull it out (and so I did ) Now I really need an antenna because it will not go back down even when I push it.

 

You may be able to source one from a junk yard, or you could replace it w/ a "non-telescoping" one, or a rubber stub one...
