how much vacuum?
i recently bought a 240z with the scarab conversion, the problem is that there is a huge cam in it and it makes like 13 pounds of vacuum, so how much vacuum does the brake booster need to operate?
|
13 LBS of vacuum, or 13 inHg / mmHg ? Are you asking because that is not enough vacuum to activate the brakes?
|
thats what i was told. and yes pounds..
|
I must have been absent in Physics the day they explained vacuum in pounds... because I thought it was measured in inHg / mmHg / kPa. So what does 13lbs of vacuum convert to in mmHg or inHg?
http://www.panteraplace.com/page202.htm Most power brake boosters are vacuum operated devices requiring approximately a minimum of 17 inches of vacuum to operate. You can check the amount of vacuum your engine makes with a vacuum gauge. If less than the required amount of vacuum is made, you will need at a minimum a vacuum reservoir. Many engines will make enough vacuum to operate the booster under some operating conditions. |
wooo inches of mercury!!!
also thats normal for ANY car with a cam, 14-12 is what they usually read, so its possible the old ass brake booster isnt operating anymore, though i have more of a feeling it might just be shot. |
ok, the 13 chingadariouses of vacuum. make you feel better?
and yes i am starting to think the replacement he put in was shot as well. |
My stock turbo engine would vary slightly from 18-20. But it seemed as though I still had good brakes anywhere below 8.
I never did know what the measurement name was though. I knew it wasn't PSI! :D |
hmm maybe the tilton pedal box is calling my name.
|
update: the booster that was in it, appeared to have been JB welded back together, anyways the s130 booster is going in tonight.
|
no tilton pedals? booooooo
|
ive got the pedals still, just waiting until i have all of the parts, before i begin construction.
|
alright, the s130 booster solved it! all i had to do was pull the spacer off the back of it and flip it upside down and the brakes are working great again!
