Would anyone buy this?
I was able to find a 76 260z at a good price and was wondering if anyone here would buy a car like this... this is not a for sale ad since I don't have the car yet. Basically, it's an OH car. There is a spot on the floorboard where it is rusted through about the size of a quarter. The body is in great shape, some very minor rust in a few usual places, like behind the fender. The car has 66k original miles and is in all around great condition other than those flaws previously stated. The car seems to have been repainted, but I believe it is the original factory color. All electronics work, etc.
What do you guys think this would be worth to someone out there?

Minor floorpan rust can be fixed with fibreglass matting but it's not a permanent solution and if you don't grind all the metal back to shiny and treat it properly before you glass it, you will have a hidden problem.
I bought a 260 myself on the weekend, it's a 76, it's my first "non-zx" (I have an 82 and used to have an 86) and I now understand why earlier is better
Shall post some pics in my gallery.

The 280z (75-78?) was never released in Australia. The 260z was the aussie z car until the 79 280zx was released down here.
I drive a 1976 260z and I can find 4 1977 260z's for sale in the trading post. I agree this might be "first registered" which means a few cars sat on the lot for 3 years (!)
Where on the car would I find the manufacture date? Should it be on one of the plaques under the bonnet? I'll have a look and let you know if there were any 260's actually built after 1974.
[edit] - checked under the bonnet and found the manufacture date as 2/76.

my car has dual 240z su carbs
normal 260z's had twin su's but with all the emmission crap on them. lots of 260's you buy in australia have had the carbie change.
The first australian fuel injected z was the 280zx. i have one of those as well.
I'm not sure why you find this so hard to believe? I accepted that there had been a 280z when i have never seen one.

No worries Mike, wasn't trying to be an arsehole
Basically aussie delivery z's were manufactured here and they stuck with the 260 and crappy su's until 1977. Most people either put the 240 carbs in the car or rip an L28E or ET from a rusted or wrecked 280zx. (zx's are a bit harder to sell)
We did get the 5 speed in the 260 though - I believe you guys waiting till the 280z?
We still follow the same basic upgrade path with the 260z drivetrain as others would.. - 240 carbs, then extractors, recurved 280zx dissy, maybe a lumpy cam and for some reason the guy who restored my car threw in a 240z diff (gets off the line nicely but revs too high on the highway). Due to the weather in Australia, a few people (myself included) will also rip out about 3 meters of pointless heater hose since our cold starts aren't really that cold.
I want to put my zx gearbox in the 260 next. clutch is almost due so i'll do it then. I've heard the ratios are better and the OD is longer.
