Re: What kind of Carbs are these?

Can't be sure from just the pictures, but they look more like the Hitachi HJGs (round-top) than the HMBs (flat-top) that came on the 260s. If so, that's good - I've seen many posts that refer to the flat-tops as "boat anchors".

Re: What kind of Carbs are these?

I think jcdozier is right they look like the round top SU's which are the good ones to have but, they have a late model flat top airbox adapted to them. Those flat tops are boat anchors they had all the extra emissions stuff added to them when the emissions good more strict. are they 4 screw or are they the 3 screw for the round tops. the 3 screw are later model 240's and the 4 screw are the early model ones. 4 screw are more desireabvle but the 3 screw are good ones too. I think by the looks of it you made out and got good ones. If they are not I have an extra set that have apolished intake and round tops. They worked well when I took them off. I put a set I rebuilt on and haven't done anything to those but polish the tops an intake, so they might need a rebuild. Have ordered the uspension parts yet for you 260.

What turns? There all straight to my Z

Re: What kind of Carbs are these?

thanks for the info, i will check and see if its three bolt or four. I am ordering my suspension early this week, i am going with tokico non adjustable struts and shocks and eibach springs. I am also changing out the exhaust, probably going with headers and either borla or flowmaster exhaust, any advice?

Thanks
Jason

Re: What kind of Carbs are these?

I don't know about the L26 engine, but with the L24 you won't get any significant increase in power from the stock engine by adding headers. A stock cam and E88 heads will only provide for so much flow, and the stock exhaust header on the L24 is pretty good. (Perhaps some 260Z folks can add something here.)

You should know before you spend the bucks, headers are prone to warp and leak. I put Hookers on my L24 several years ago, and after about 60,000 miles they were leaking at five of the six exhaust ports. Warpage was so bad they had to be weld-filled (i.e., built up) before they could be machined true. I also have a 2.5 inch exhaust with a single muffler, no resonator, that sounds really good. Headers or not, larger exhaust piping and a low-restriction muffler can't help but improve back-pressure for the engine.

Thanks for the advice, i'll check that out. I have the 4 bolt carbs, checked early today, so would that mean the 70-72 SU's?

Thanks
Jason

Jr

You do have earlier 70-72 carbs. But what I find kinda awkward you have the 73-74 Smog airbox that probably came stock with the car. I'm curious is there a spacer between the SU's and the Airbox? Because i think you need to fit it to the earlier SUs.

Anyways the above post is right. I would just keep the stock exhaust and change the pipe and get maybe 2 1/2 inch pipe. Thats a good enough improvement. If you really do the research Headers will improve when you got a more pumped up engine. Stock won't make much of a difference, ,maybe sound if your looking for that. Be sure to check your current exhaust doesn't have any leaks. maybe good time to replace both exhaust gaskets.

If you need shocks and suspension let me know;) We got good price at strictlyz.com;)

Re: What kind of Carbs are these?

Thanks Yuichi,

I'm not sure if there is a spacer, I couldn't see one. I am going to swap the airbox out anyway and put on either a ITG or K & N, which one is better? I am also looking for full suspension bushings, shocks, struts and springs, I want to go with tokico shocks and struts(non adjustable) and eibach springs.

Hey jr260z did you check out ground-control.com for struts and springs. Yuchi has suspension bushings and if not he can get ahold of them. You can try out nopi.com they have some stuff for Z's, I know they have sus bush's I think for like $159,or$169. Give those places a wherl.

Re: What kind of Carbs are these?

Jr,

Actually the stock airbox should be more then enough for your engine. Nissan actually did a good job and the pieces sticking out in the air box are to help improve air flow. I would try to get the 70-72 air box if you were to do any improvements.

Did I hear Groundcontrol.com? If you guys want coilovers we are offering 10% off the coilover and springs set price so thats 40 bucks off of 400.

At StrictlyZ.com we have bushings, shocks etc.. If you want the Bushings there are only 2 master 240Z bushing kits avalible that we have. The Energy Suspension wherehouse burned down, So they are on major backorder! If you don't believe look it up in the news;(

Just e-mail me at service@StrictlyZ.com with any quesitons
