weight differences 240z and 280z

Why does the 240z weigh in at 2400lbs and the 280z limps along at 2800lbs?

Is the L28 that much heavier? Other than that, I only see bumpers and wheels perhaps adding more weight.

By the time you take a 240z and add an L28, nice wheels, etc, will it weigh as much as a 280?

I ask because I may have found a really nice 280, and any s30 is hard to come by where I live, much less one in good shape. So can anyone tell me the difference?

The car I am looking at is silver/black, 4-spd, working ac, 280zxt wheels, spoiler, and a good price. I am going to look at it in a few hours:

thoughts?

My thoughts are:

Buy that sucker!

Once you remove the bumpers, you've dropped quite a bit (I am going to estimate close to 100 lbs., if not more, with the brackets and everything, they were pretty heavy). Alot of the weight, though, comes from stiffer (and heavier) body panels and the unibody is stiffer (which some people like when doing V8 conversions)

Now, everybody is going to give you different answers...but, think about it...you've already got the L28, you probably already have the R200 rear end, it's already got fuel injection, so if you want to run an L28ET it's going to be alot easier to do, and if you don't like fuel injection, you can always put the SU's on...

I personally like my 280Z and couldn't imagine having paid alot more for a 240Z that wasn't in as good of condition, just because it was a 240Z. You can always lower weight even more with fibreglass body parts...

Of course, opinions are like buttholes, everybody has one, and they all stink...
