V8 Conversion Help

Hi this is my first post on this particular msg brd as I currently own an 88 300zx. My question though has to do with the 240z and the V8 mod. Pretty much I want to build me a fast street/drag car and I am looking into building a nice SB v8 for a future vintage chevy or plymouth but for now I would like to build a V8 into a 240 to impress all my buds in the Z Car Club of Ohio ;) anyway I am pretty much wanting to know what pertains to doing this. Will I need to purchase a new transmission or will I be able to use the existing 5 speed. What types of parts do I need to accomplish this conversion. I know that motorsport sells a conversion kit but is all this really necessary for the conversion. As far as I see it I am thinking to buy the new motor mounts and remove the straight six and drop in the v8 I know there will be difficulties on the way but is that pretty much all there is? This will be my very first engine buildup and swap but I plan on learning through doing, asking, and reading as much as possible to get what I want. The engine I am planning on dropping in will be something along the tune of a Nitrous Fed chevy sb 383. Thanx for any and all help as I very much appreciate it.

Re: V8 Conversion Help

The best kit is the one sold by Jag That Run (JTR), http://www.jagsthatrun.com/Pages/Datsun_Z_V-8.html. You are dead on with your plan of asking, and reading. My suggestion before you start asking is to go to JTR and get their manual and read it 4 times, THEN start asking questions. That manual is worth its weight in gold and after reading it you will have a much better understanding and not ask the simple questions that have been asked a 1000 times.

Good luck with the project and once you get done reading, stop by www.hybridz.org every once in a while to chat with folks who have done the swap.

Why did you post the same message in a different thread without even looking below for a reply I spent some time typing out and prepping?

Here's your original post, please check it first

Re: V8 Conversion Help

nope. I didn't get mad, I was just upset because it seemed that my effort went to waste. That's why I pointed out my reply as well. 280zrock got mad at us because he didn't get any replies, and he thought we were obligated to help. I didn't start crying out that I'm going to leave the site because of that.

besides, you seem love to jump into arguments. just try to pick ones you can win :)

your other post did not go to waste because I saw that one too and it also sent all the replies to the post to my email address so I got every reply. Just for some reason I accidently entered two duplicate posts maybe it was something with hitting my back button or something but anyway I did get an email with all my replies and I did get your brillitantly thought out and well organized answer to my question and I thank you.
