Distributor condenser nut problem

Distributor condenser nut problem
I was removing the distributor condenser from the distributor and the nut holding the connector may have fallen into the distributor. If I remove the breaker plate, does that give me access to the internals of the distributor to retrieve the nut?
After searching in my Haynes manual I found how to remove the breaker plate and gain access to the internals of the distributor and recovered the missing nut using a magnet tool. I also found a small thin piece of metal shim(?) and have no idea what it may be. Is it possible a piece of the contact assembly or something that may have slipped out from between the two pieces of the breaker plate. Any ideas? Looks like everything works with the breaker plate and the adjustment aspect for the gap setting on my new Pertronix electronic ignition.
