Twice Pipes?

Im still looking for an exhaust and i saw twice pipes on MotorsportAuto.com. They look pretty interesting. Does anyone have these on their car? How loud is it? I expect the glasspacks make it pretty loud, correct?

WHAT!!!! LOUD???? CANT HEAR YOU WHAT DID YOU SAY???
OH twice pipes....
even the turbo exhaust is to loud in the interior from 2000 to 2600 rpm w/a header. That annoying out of sync prop sound just reverberates though out the interior. All though it sounds great out side w/it.

I was thinking about getting the twice pipes for my last Z, but I found out the pipes were only something like 1 1/2" diameter, and couldn't see any performance gain versus a 2 1/4" or 2 1/2" single setup with a flowmaster, which probably flows better than the glasspacks.

I had the 2 1/2" single with dynomax with a MSA 6-1 header on my 240z. It was a classic nice deep loud L-motor sound. Luv
every bit of it!

I was looking at dynomax. Thats what i intended to get. Can you give me a part number of your muffler. I plan on ordering by next week. The way you described the sound is what im looking for.

I got 2.5" pipe from the collector back--- sounds great with my Cherry Bomb (not a glasspack, but a muffler from AutoZone)

yozsi 06-08-2003 06:50 PM

a cherry bomb is a glass pack

72datsun240z 06-09-2003 08:43 PM

a cherry bomb glasspack is a glasspack. cherry bomb also makes universal mufflers and AutoZone sells them for cheap. its basically a glasspack broken into two and put into a muffler case... but its not like you would normally think of a glasspack---- straight pipe... its not.

so there :)

No muffler on the L28ET..........took off the cat and it made no difference so I left it on. Passes emissions and sounds deep with no buzz.

this may seem ricer to some of you, but I've got an Apexi N-1 muffler on mine and I love the way it sounds. Loud? Yes, but I'm running straight pipe from the header back to the N--1 so, I expected no less.

Brandar77 06-29-2003 06:58 PM

muffler was $189, btw

Back to your question

Twice pipes sound LOUD. Have you ever been to a road race? Well the twice pipes sound almost as loud as an ITS spec race car. Dont get me wrong, it sounds "Ferrari" SWEET but LOUD both inside and outside the car. Coupled with headers, you get 3 cylinders dumping into each one of the twice pipes. It's a true dual exhaust for the Z. I would love to see it in stainless.

jvanen 07-09-2003 03:32 AM

I ran a 6-1 header into 2.5" exhaust all the way back to a flow master in the rear.....people think you want to race every time you "clear your throat" and the resonating in the cab is nothing shy of a dull roar. It will be getting changed in the near future...

The twice pipes system that MSA sells is NOT a true dual system. It looks like a 2.5 single collector off the header.
