Thinking about buying my old car back
 

I drove a 1970 240Z from 1973 to 1984, then I parked it in the barn until 2005. I sold it to a client who collects them. I talked to him yesterday, he still has the car, never got around to restoring it, and is willing to sell it back to me for about the same amount of money.

I have always regretted selling the car, so I think I will go look at it Sunday and I will probably buy it back.

How stupid is this? :)

There is nothing about restoring 40 year old vehicles for fun that makes any logical sense. Speaking for myself, I embrace that.

Definitely needs more work than when you parked her and when you sold her. If you love her, put the time and money into her but do it for the love alone. You will probably never get the money back - but the rides you get out of her should make up for all the work... if you do the work right, that is... :unibrow: Your call!

I looked at her today and almost cried. She's been sitting out in the weather for years. :(

So I gave the guy a little more money than he gave me and told him I would be back to trailer her home in a few weeks, after I find a covered place to put her.

I will need to get some kind of low dolly to put underneath her as all of the tires are flat and some are off the bead, No telling what is locked up.

This is be a loooooooong term project, but hopefully she will live again as a Bob Sharp tribute/DE car.

There is no love like an old love! :icon_pai: You got her back. Don't get discouraged because there is so much work needed. She still loves you, too. Please post some pix here for us, start to finish. You gotta bring her back to better shape than before you deserted her. ;)

Bravo! Good for you. I understand about long projects. Started two years ago on a complete rebuild, thinking it would be about a year. It's now been two years and I'm still thinking it will be another year ... and I've been making good progress at that. It just seems that every time you finish one thing, two more things you didn't think about are discovered!

Glad that you got her back.....first Gen Z always a good thing to have!

My team's (Team MOCIAP #32 Supra) first Chump Car race is in 4 weeks, so I have been frantically trying to finish the frickin car. 9 months work on this thing, all by my lonesome, but the test drive Saturday was a success (it didn't blow up).

After the race, 1st priority will be picking up what's left of the Z.

Maybe I should jack it up, pull the wheels and try to inflate the tires with some Fixaflat? It would sure make winching her onto the trailer a little easier if I can get her up in the air a bit and on wheels/tires.

1) Good luck with the race. Stay safe and have a great time.

2) Before you put that Fixaflat goo in there, jack it up and see if the tires will simply hold air long enough to trailer it home. Then you don't have all that crap in there and you might save some of those $$$ you'll need to make your love healthy and a thing of beauty. Of course I'm assuming you've got access to some kind of air compressor.

carefull when jacking it up, might be tender under there.
but trying to put air in the tires so it can be more mobile than it sits is most definatly a good idea.

and yes a first gen z is the most desireable, and yes it will probly be a long term project that may have more surprises than anticipated. but it will be a great thing to do that will bring a great amount of joy once you can drive her again.

There's several variations out there where they build a rotisserie from two 1000 lb Engine stands from China Freight...

Not sure I would trust that not to break at exactly the wrong time. My experience with Harbor Freight tools has not been the best.
