T/C rods snapped

Hi there...I need some help. My tension compression rod snapped again. This is number three. The first one was trial and error and it was my first one where I torqued it in the air. I run poly bushing and now I torque them to specs while on the ground, but what am I doing wrong that these break like twigs. Now, I hit a pot hole, but not very deep. Just enough to snap my rod. I was wondering if someone made stronger rods for the '79 to '83 model? I have an '81. Thanks for any help in advance.

snapping them where? at the threaded joint/bushing coupler, or at the bolt up points on the control arm? Is your suspension at stock height or not?

Re: T/C rods snapped

They're snapping at the threaded joint/bushing coupler. My suspension is stock and ride height is stock. Sorry for the confusion.

Re: T/C rods snapped

They were torqued to about 27 to 30 ft lbs. That's what the Hyanes Manual suggested.

Re: T/C rods snapped

It's been the driver's side twice and the pax's side once. I have some history on this know. The car was hit bad on the pax's side rear quarter on May 5, 2001. It was taken to a body and collision shop and the frame was strighten out and then the front end was alignment. Ever since then, the driver's side snapped, the pax's and then the driver's. I'm still at a lost on what to do. But thanks for your suggestions and questions guys.
