SU mods all good

On the weekend the carbs came off and got very clean...and I got very high from carb cleaner spray. Anyway the mission was to file down the throttle shafts so as to improve airflow thru the carbs (I thought flow might have been the reason she's not making much power after about 5krpm) Well it all went smoothly until I ruined one of the screws that hold the butterfly on to the shaft. It was locktight heaven in there. I had to drill it out arghhh. steel screw in brass d'oh. Anyway after much charging of drill batteries and stuff I got everything all apart. I had one of those files that it round on one side and flat on the other. What I did was grind it with the round side where the screw holes are until you get it down to about 3mm or so and then flatten off the bit in between with the flat side. You can shape it like a little wing if you're retentive like me. Then polish it up with some 400grit paper and some autosol put it all back together *don't forget to locktight it all back together) and go and drag race an Evo...or an Sti

Of course the 46mm SUs are perfect for a 2.4 but mines got an L28. About right now I reckon. Nice free power...Norm was right. Kept the stock spring but got really light oil in the damper and you can keep your stock needles.
