SU Carbs

hey all, I have a question. The Su carbs on my Z are acting rather funny. The front carb seems to be sucking in more air than the rear one, and at idel there is a audible hissing sound from this carb. My idle has become high as well, it sits at 1500rpm now, it used to be 800 - 900rpm. A friend told me there might be an internal leak in the carb, has anyone had this problem before?

Sounds like a vaccum leak, I dont know much about these cars yet but and increase in idel speed and hissing are symptoms of this. Use a can of carb cleaner with the fine spray nozzle on and spray slowly across the entire carb and intake and any vac lines that run off of it and you will find the problem.

I've used propane before... bear with me. If you get a cheap propane torch, and NOT light it, you can open it just enough for some propane to start flowing. Now, move it all over the vacuum lines, all joints... if you see an idle increase, you've found your leak.

that sounds a bit dangerous. Check if the vacumm line that joins the two carbies is connected properly as this will uspet the balanace. If that doesn't help try tunning it so there in sync.

A safer method is to use CRC AeroStart or equivalent...

Re: SU Carbs

thanks for all the help guys, but its all in vein. I got flashed for speeding in the country, and looks like I might be losing my license. Sad thing is its my first speeding ticket, and I was doing about 190km/h in a 110 zone. All my pretty demerit points saved up over two years gone in about 0.005 seconds. But thats life I guess. I'll be looking to sell the car now to pay off the fines, and buy a bus pass to get to school.......DAMN SPEED POLICE, why do they have to do their jobs so well

Hey don't sell the car just store it away and save your money so that when u get your license back you can have heaps of money to blow on the car again lol...... It depends on how long you loose it for I guess.
