SR20DET
Hello all, i am kinda new to the 240zx car, but am familliar with other nissans. There is a pretty good looking 280 in my neighbor hood for sale, they want 2,800 for it, just wondering if it is worth it, and also in the ad, at the top it says it has a 4 banger in it, but in the description it says line 6, wondering if the 280 even came with a 4 cyl. in it. Ok, and now to my real question, if i do get this 280, i would like to drop in a SR20DET, some of you might know it is the turbo'd engine from the nissan silvia s15, just wondering if this is possible, thought it might be since the silvia and 240zx are both RWD platforms. thank you all for your time, and hope you can help me out.

Re: SR20DET
OK i think ur getting mixed up
There is no such thing as a 240ZX 240Z '69-'73 Inline six L24 Datsun 240SX '89 - current american version of a silvia with a KA24DE Nissan ull have to get a fellow american to answer about the 280Z value as im in australia ..... and yes you can put the SR20DET in the 280Z but why ? why not use an RB Series skyline engine or a 1jz or 2jz out of a supra ?? Re: SR20DET
what year is the 280z? or is it a 280zx?
If its an early 280 (like a 74-75) and its in pretty good shape, 2800 is reasonable, but check for frame damage (on the front end, battery tray, firewall rust, and uh, a few other things. Also find out if its got an r200 rear (that'll save you the hassle later on if it already has it). if its a later model 280z(x) with a turbo, you'd be better off spending the money on it instead of replacing the motor; since the L28 can yield way more power then an SR20DET thats just my opinion. .cre |
Re: SR20DET
I'd have to agree with Loki man, you'll want to put either an RB or JZ motor in your Z if you've got the cash for a custom oneoff job. They both make a lot of hp. An SR will make a lot of hp and it weighs less than an L28, but still you can't outweigh the RB or JZ. And nothing beats the sound of high strung straight six motor! :]

Re: SR20DET
SR20DET can make more power than an L28ET ! and its way lighter ! For a start its alloy block and DOHC crossflow head ...
