Soon to be a 260Z owner
 

Hey everyone,


I have been looking for a Z car for a while now and just stumbled upon a 74 260z (late model I believe as it is stamped 8/74). Its been sitting for a long time, but fired up and ran today. Looks fairly complete, granted its a mess and needs some work. Just wanted to get some input from those that have more knowledge than myself. The worst of the rust is on that back hatch where the spoiler was. The rest of it is actually really clean, some minor surface stuff, but the floor pans and kick panels are good, underneath seems clean as well.

That's a heck of a project car. If it is as rust-free as you say, it is worth further consideration as it does run. Did you make it move as well?

What do you want from this car? Full restoration? Rat rod? Track car? Daily driver? You've got to think about what it will take, after you spend money to purchase it, to make it what you want.

Take a read of the restoration thread I've got going on this forum. You'll get a good idea of what's required.

BTW, if you aren't going the air-dam route on the front end, I have the cheeks and chin you are missing. They aren't perfect but they're better than nothing.

The car looks a bit of a mess, but it runs and drives. I figure for 1000 bucks though... it was a fair deal. This car im looking to do a slow restore, nothing crazy, probably autoX or track oriented. I have had full on race cars before and am finishing up a 76 F-250 restore right now so been shopping for a more sporty toy. I peeked at your rebuild thread and made me miss living in Arizona. I would be interested in seeing the cheeks you had as well until I figure out what I want for sure.

For $1,000 I think you've easily got the value even if you parted it out.

You'll have fun with the auto-X or track stuff.

I'll take some photos of the cheeks and chin as they stand today and post them in a bit. As I'm doing an air dam on the front, I don't need them.

Hey thanks for posting that, sending you one as well. Looks like your car is a lot cleaner than that one I got haha. I actually lived in Flagstaff for 3 years prior to moving back up north.

The previous owner says he is cleaning up the car today for me to pick up tomorrow and has a list of spare's including the original wheel set amongst some other spares, so I feel as you said parting out the value is higher than I paid.

Fresh shots of cheeks and chin. Noticed the original Nissan labels are still visible!

Slight crease on one cheek and a bend in the chin but nothing that can't be worked. The dark spot on one cheek is not rust, just a spot where the original rubber bumper cap rubbed through the paint.

Finally got off work and home. Looks good

I don't have a box available in the size needed. Will stop by the UPS store tomorrow and get a box and shipping quote. Not to worry, I'll pack it myself.

Great thanks. I tow home my new toy tomorrow afternoon. Was surprised even got approval from the wife! Can't wait to get started.

I too was surprised to get approval from my wife. That is until I realized she knew it would keep me from being underfoot in the house.

Anyway, congratulations. Some days you will love it, some days you will hate it. Fortunately the love it days outnumber the hate it days.

Lol pretty sure that's the same story for me. thx again. I've downloaded the manuals and will try to document my progress here. Lots to learn.
