Slow 280z
 

Hello Everyone,
I've been in the market for a classic car for the past several months and recently drove my first 280z. It looked great, was in solid condition and the price was right.

Honestly, I was really disappointed with the performance of the car. It drove like a van in the sense that it just seemed happiest below 3000 rpm and just seemed kind of anemic. It didn't want to rev.

Are 280z's known to be this way? Any ideas of what the issue could be or how it would be fixed? Should I be discouraged from buying this or any other 280z?

The closest car to compare it to that I've driven is a 74 Triumph TR6 (about the same age, inline 6) and that felt much peppier.

140 HP !!and god knows how much HP to the wheel!?

So they are not fast!!!

You always can upgrade and get more HP's....or don't buy and look for somthing faster.
For us here we love them no mater what!!

No, they are not super fast by modern standards, but I have to think something is wrong with the one you test drove. They should rev happily way past 3000 rpm, and would be quite a bit faster than a TR6.

I would go ahead and test drive a couple more before giving up on the 280Z.

A lot of the time is the air flow meter all it needs is a rebuild or a adjustment if you dont want to buy a new one as they are pricey that may be thw case with that one
