Should I get this Z
I am looking at a silver/black 73 240Z in my newspaper. I have seen it twice. The first time I drove it and it drove very nice, It had some mods done to it. THe people who are selling of are the parents of the person who formerly owned the car but he died. I was kinda sad to hear that so i didn't ask anymore questions about him. It has 106k miles on it but they don't know if that is the original engine because it was their sons. Anyways, on the second visit I noticed rust under battery (of course) and that was the only rust I spotted. it was clean under mats and under car. No rust. I started the car and gas was leaking from the one hose that was on the side the carbs were on. It had two nice big carbs. A throaty exhaust. Could this car get me to school and back. I know I can afford to insure it. The driver side Headlight hit a rock so that needs to be replaced, the radio was stolen so i need to get a new head unit and since it was stolen the two back turn signals don't work but they work when the wires are wiggled in the dash. (bad connection) and the emergency brake doesn't work. (is this a big deal?)

Sounds pretty good. You can check to see if the car has the original engine by looking at the casting on the back right hand side of the motor (the other side to the carbs and exhaust). If the number on there matches the plate on the side then ur right. Your E Brake has to work to be registered in australia i dont know about US but they are not hard to fix. If the car has rust under the battery box it will have rust in other places or it has had a repair job on it. What hose was leaking fuel ... where is it located what is it connected to ?? Do the carbies have the bowls on the side ?? and do they have hatachi symbol stamped on them anywhere ? Headlights are cheap and easy to replace ... How much is the car and then i can give u a bit more advice whether to get it or not .. if u have an extra $500US that should get you on the road by the sounds of it

ok the hoses are fixed already it is just that the z has been sitting for 1.5 years and somethings are getting old you know. They are asking 3000 obo so i am going to offer 2200 and see what happens. I really want this one cause it looks nice compared to other z's i have seen.

Re: Should I get this Z
they said they will sell it to me for 2700 but that includes a lot of extra parts, bins and bins of extra parts. The engine was rebuilt less than 5 years ago. BTW how hard is it to put some ground control coilovers on a 240, they look so sick when they are slammed. Im not gonna have my car scraping speed bumps and 5 12 inch woofers in the back, I just like the car lower than normal.

Hello, Elmo ~ I'm very new here, so forgive me for just "jumping into" the regular mix. You do not state where you are from, but, I need to say from personal experience that under NO circumstances would I purchase a Z-car for winter transportation in snow, ice, and otherwise nasty winter conditions. If you are in the south, then that is different. I see others have advised you what to do, perhaps they know more than I about your personal situation. However, trust me, I would NOT put my life in the trust and care it sounds as if this vehicle you are looking at needs. I also would not even put it into my own, and I've owned mine for 20 years! For snowy or icy or slick winter conditions, you honestly need a heavier vehicle than a Z car. Please consider your safety amongst your options, and do not go with your heart on this matter ~ go with what works for you. And be cautious as to costs to keep the vehicle factory and not "rigged".
Kind regards, Susan

Sounds ok ... rebuilt 5 years ago is getting a little old ... but that parts are good .... offer them $2500 Yeah you can get coil overs pretty easy or make your own ... easy too....
As for driving it all the time .. i havent driven in ice or snow but ive used my 260Z 2+2 as a daily driver (my first car) for a few years now. If you have good tyres its not as bad ... with cheap tyres they do tend to slide out in teh back a little .. but it is a short light sports car .... !?
