shims
shims
I have a 1973 240z thats been at a shop getting the rear end worked on along with many other things. Everything is done but putting the differential back in the car. He said he's having a hard time finding "differential side bearing shims".
I've looked and I can't find anything about these shims. I've called a parts store and they need to know the size so I ask the mechanic and he said to get a variety pack because whats measured won't be the proper size.
Can someone tell me what to do about the size of shim needed or where to buy a variety pack of shims that would work?
Thanks,

Sounds like after the collision things aren't lined up correctly. IMHO shims could be a band-aid solution that will lead to problems further down the road.
Ask your mechanic if the car itself can be straightened.

When I say I'm getting my rear end worked on I meant my deferential is out of the car and being rebuilt. The shims are the thing he's having a hard time finding. It wasn't in a wreck.
Sorry I made it sound like that.
He's having a hard time finding differential side bearing shims. Does a variety shim kit exist?
Where can I find it?
