shims

I have a 1973 240z thats been at a shop getting the rear end worked on along with many other things. Everything is done but putting the differential back in the car. He said he's having a hard time finding "differential side bearing shims".
I've looked and I can't find anything about these shims. I've called a parts store and they need to know the size so I ask the mechanic and he said to get a variety pack because whats measured won't be the proper size.
Can someone tell me what to do about the size of shim needed or where to buy a variety pack of shims that would work?

Thanks,

Sounds like after the collision things aren't lined up correctly. IMHO shims could be a band-aid solution that will lead to problems further down the road.

Ask your mechanic if the car itself can be straightened.

When I say I'm getting my rear end worked on I meant my deferential is out of the car and being rebuilt. The shims are the thing he's having a hard time finding. It wasn't in a wreck.
Sorry I made it sound like that.
He's having a hard time finding differential side bearing shims. Does a variety shim kit exist?
Where can I find it?

Thanks,

Shims are NLA, best you can do is get him to measure ID and OD of old shim and see if you can find something or have some shims custom made. Good luck.

Thanks,
You didn't make it sound like that. I have no idea why I thought it was hit. Probably confused it with another thread I may have recently read.

Thanks for the help. Would anyone know what the stock size shim was?

Thanks!
