RESIN w/ HARDNER
 

has anyone here molded fiberglass before, and if so what kind of goves do you use for the project. I used some latex gloves, but when the resin is mixed w/ hardner it starts to heat up, and burn away at the gloves. I now have a burn on my finger =X. HELP?!

I uses medical latex gloves from a friend's clinic. Those seems to hold pretty well. I'll try to find out the brand for ya

I've done some fibreglass part making out of molds, have repaired fibreglass, and repaired metal and boats with fibreglass, and for the most part only used regular dishwashing type chemical resistant (buy at home depot) gloves. Then again, I also used fibreglass rollers, paint brushes and spreaders to spread the gel and saturate the fibers, most often the gloves would only see a spot here and there.

Why are you using your hand so much with the stuff?

I would always try to put one sheet of fiberglass on, and wash my hands right after. Will the resin roller's be ruined after a few minutes of use?. because i hear you mix the Resin with the hardner, and everything i use, it starts to dry up on my equiptment and get hard. Then i haft to throw it away and use new ones.

ok i never worked with fiberglass is it liquidy or is it harder so you can mold it better how do you make a shape for example i dunno a fender how hard would it be to shape??!!!

resin is....Watery/Gooey it is like...Light surp.
A fender is very simple to mold, but the hard part is the mounts.

if you have ever done paper meshay in elementry school then you can do fiberglass molds.

it is very simple to do, but it takes alot of time. To prefect it, and let it dry up. If you mix too much harder with resin, it dont dry right, if too little. It wont dry at all.

haha, you only need to know how to do the fun things. All that other hard learning things..were useless. =P

When you put fiberglass on the real fender thats called a mold.

It should be only 1-2 layers.

now you take that mold, and you start putting fiberglass on the inside of it, then feel off when done, and that will be your auctual project.

so thats how you do it you layer it on a regual fender n peel it off and then put it on as the fender??? didnt know.......does it peel of easy ?

YEP! thats just about it, umm to have it peel off easy, you want to put something to cover the fender, I use WAX. i put on a really fat layer of wax and start slapping on the glue. Here is a link of a hood i am doing for a Acura Legend.

how do you get the wax off the car afterwards?

that part i have not though of yet. Pour some water on it, and rub, it should come off.
