rear side panel (Interior)
o.k. stupid newbie question: I am trying to take out the rear side panel (the one most towards the rear end). and I cannot get it to slide out. It is loose but I can't seem to get to slide out, is there a trick to this or am I just a dork???

Re: rear side panel (Interior)
i think you have to take the one further to the front out first, i'm not 100% sure though, look at where it joinbs, if it goes under the panel closer to the front you have to take that one off as well

I took mine off yesterday... you also need to take the panel that covers the stop lights etc. Its bloody annoying having to take everything of just to get one panel. What hinge does it get caught on?

Presuming it's a 240:
The vinyl panel just below the quarter window, the panel covering the tail lights AND the center panel that houses the interior (room) light all have to be removed in order to get the large plastic panel that goes in the corner. ON the Right Side it covers your Vapor Recovery Tank and the Filler Neck, on the Left it covers your Antenna and Speaker.
You may also have to remove the hatch support shock to get the left one out.
BIGGEST PIECE OF ADVICE!!!
Take your time, don't rush it. These plastic pieces were FLIMSY when NEW and are now in addition to being flimsy OLD! That makes them BRITTLE and you may find yourself with pieces if you rush it.
There are tons of the little rivets with the insert holding the thing in place. Check to make sure you've removed all of them and then go for it.
One trick I found to retrieve the little pins that fall back behind the metal:
Get your shop vac, beg, borrow or steal a knee-high stocking from your girlfriend, or just go buy a pair from the local 7-11. Tape that to the end of your shop vac hose, turn on the shop vac and you will see that the stocking gets sucked in. Attach your favorite crevice device, or in order to get way down in there, like deep into the side panel in front of the wheel, get a piece of flexible hose and either tape it to the end of the shop vac hose or hold it. Feed the flexible hose way down to the rocker panel, and move it around. After a bit, pull it out. Shut off the shop vac, and carefully invert the stocking again and empty it onto a piece of newspaper or something. You should be able to find all the little pins that fell off towards the rocker panel.
Note: If you come up with other crud, check to see IF IT IS MOIST, if it is you want to get in there and remove ALL of this. This is the stuff that holds moisture and causes rust.
Lastly, if it turns out that you can't retrieve all the pins and are having fits cause you want to restore the interior to looking at least complete, you can get similar rivets at a Lowe's Hardware Specialty Fastener section. They aren't identical replacements, but they are pretty close. If nothing else, the pin will work in your rivets. Cost is about $0.79 for a pair.
Hope this helps.
