Re: RB30 ENGINE IN A 260z

Is that an old 'Creations' manifold on your car?. I've got one just like it, well apart from the custom plenum & aluminised coating...

Anyhow, yes you will need the RB gearbox & mounts & a modified sump, and lots of other things.

My dad's in the process of putting an RB25DE into one of our 240Z's but the actual fitting of the engine is quite a way off yet.

Which capital city are you nearest to?

Re: RB30 ENGINE IN A 260z

I have a rb26 in mine. the block is the same just a little taller. you can either custom make all mounts and driveshaft or you can use rb-20 eng mounts from the Z-31 (japan spec) use teh r-33 gtst tranny and front 1/2 of the driveshaft and the only mount you have to make is the tranny mount.

If you use a rb25 grab the oil pickup and pan from the z-31 rb20 and it is a bolt in mod!!!! Ive been told austrailia didnt get the rb20 z-31 so that may be a problem.

my 2 cents

Seen it done - a guy in Melb has a white 260Z 2+2 with an RB30. Apparently not to difficult a swap.

Are you going to use the turbo motor?

My friend has an RB30 turbo in his 240Z its a tight fit and requires a few modifications but it goes really hard...

Still waiting on my RB20DET :(

I've never seen a turbocharged, carburetor set up in a Z before, that's pretty wierd looking. Also just curious, why are there so many Aussies on this board? Is it based in Australia?

Re: RB30 ENGINE IN A 260z

I don't think so - the 200ZR has a different x-member & mounts & they're the ones you need. Perhaps the Laurel or Stagea mounts would work, but your guess is as good as mine.

Not that it's critical here in AUS - I could list 1/2 dozen workshops in each city that could fit an RB to a Z. There's plenty of local knowledge here.

Re: RB30 ENGINE IN A 260z

If you did that, I'd STRONGLY recommend the use of a TBI setup over the carbs. Perhaps something like a single 45DCOE-style throttle body unit with big injectors.

Converting one of the 'creations' manifolds to MPI is a pain (been there, done that)...
