Re: RB26 or RB30

Well this one has been discussed before on a number of forums (ie www.hybridz.org) so i wont go too into it.

1. If you're in the US dont bother.
2. If you want torque and dont like to rev your motor go RB30ET
3. If you like a a nice free revving engine go RB26DETT (8500rpm limit)
4. If you are on any kind of budget go RB30ET
5. If you want big HP RB26DETT or maybe even RB30ET with RB26DETT head.

I'm putting an RB26DETT in my 240Z.... going by what stoney says on hybridz it SHOULD be able to do a low 11sec pass at the 1/4 on standard boost.

All of the info u'll need is on hybridz so just do a search for RB26

If you are in queensland australia i can give u the number of some one who'll do the whole conversion for you .

Re: RB26 or RB30

IF YOU GOT TONNES OFF DOLLEROS YEH GO FOR THE SKYLINE ENGINE. IF YOUR GOING THE COMMODORE ENGINE (N/A OR TURBO)TURBO WOULD BE OK AS THOSE SUCKERS CAN BE BOOSTED FOR GOOD NUMBERS. I'VE HEARD AND READ ARTICLES REGARDING THE RB25DET OR RB26DETT HEAD ONTO THE RB30 BLOCK FOR THE ULTIMATE COMBO AS THESE MATE UP EASILY.PUTTING THE RB30 N/A WONT BE WORTH IT AS THE H/P WONT BE FAR OFF THE L28.
CHECK OUT SOME HOLDEN COMMODORE MAGAZINES AS THEY REGULARLY FEATURE THIS JOB.
EITHER WAY THEY FIT WELL WITH SUMP MODS.
280ZX WITH THAT POWER AND STYLIN UNDER THE HOOD WOULD BE WIKID. KEEP US POSTED.

Re: RB26 or RB30

hahah commodore ... i would get mine out of an R31 skyline ... wouldnt want to infect the zed :P

1 problem with using the RB26DETT head and the RB30et block is that the standard RB30 pistons are a bit weak and its big dollars if you are gonna rebuild the RB30 block and pistons first !

Re: RB26 or RB30

also dont forget you are gonna have to upgrade the fuel system and brakes !

Re: RB26 or RB30

Im not sure where you are from but theres a mag which I regularly read from australia called ZOOM (I sure LOKI reads it). They tend to show a mustled up zed every issue with sometimes full rundowns on the work done.Current issue has a 240z with a 'mild' rb30 block (no mention of new pistons)rb25 head with 2 'older' garrett turbos .running 280hp @ the wheels.

Re: RB26 or RB30

i got that article EVILZ, well worth a look....

the Rb30 Rb26 combo is well worth it, but u needa strengthen the block a little, and a single big turbo would be most efficient... fast GTRs in japan use one turbo

if your looking for budget power, a stock Rb26dett would be good, but i heard they don't bolt in like a Rb30det will...

fuel systems will need to be upgraded, brakes are up to u if u want to stop the car..

Re: RB26 or RB30

but do you know why they use single turbos ... ? because they are drag cars and drag cars dont have to worry about compressor wheel enertia a because they dont evey want their turbos to be spooling down. why do you think nissan went twins with their expensive sports cars ?? not even just nissan mitsubishi 3000GT, Toyota soarer and supra, Rx7 the list goes on .....

twin turbos give much more response and are more suited for track work .. if u look at the track GTRs in japan most of them still run twins ... a single is cheaper and lighter though ...

in short twin turbos give better spooling response = less lag between getting on and off the throtle .. and this info came from the lead garrett designer .. there is an interview on www.autospeed.com with him ..

Re: RB26 or RB30

Actually most of the built up GTR's I see in Mags over here still run twin turbo's.....

Re: RB26 or RB30

With the new technology of turbo's they are becoming less and less laggier. If you have a decently sized engine (i.e 3+ Litres) I wouldnt expect lag to be AS BIG as an issue as it otherwise may be. But then again that depends on which turbo you are talking about...

Tuning plays a big roll as well.....the RB26 Z31 I went in had upgraded Twin turbo's and it didnt touch boost until about 5k....I wouldnt be suprised if he had that tuned better (I get the impression he did it on the cheap) he could probably lower it a bit.

Re: RB26 or RB30

agreed, i just was saying single turbo, to get ideas and stuff..

i'd keep the twin turbos, better drivabilty for the street i'd say to..

Re: RB26 or RB30

It must be nice to live in Austraila where you can find RB26DETT's lying around like chevy 350's in the states. The Japanese deemed us unworthy of the pleasure of owning extremely bad ass cars like the skyline. They must just not like us I guess, something about a war or something. I don't know.
