question about buying a 240z
hello
i found a 240z in a junkyard and the body is pretty srtaight, a little bondo on the roof nothing major, and i guess all thats wrong is the clutch cylinder is out. the motor was rebuilt awhile ago and the junkyard owner was pretty firm on $600 cash. that seemed a little steep to me because i bought my 81 280zxt for $500 and it runs perfectly. i am finding it hard to justify $600 for a "ya it used to run and it was rebuilt" when i payed 500 for a working one. what are your thoughts about it, i will have a motor from a 1976 280z with 60k on it to swap in just in case so it might be worth it. |
Hum... a junked 240z with bondo for $600. Yep... that sounds steep, like $600 too much. :D
How do you know there is bondo (aka body filler) on the roof? |
what about the rust? did you check for any rust?
|
why don't you just try to get it running right quick without putting any money into it and pay $600 after you confirm that it runs well and was actually rebuilt? hell, if it had perfect compression and got oil pressure when i turned it over that would be enough for me.

Ask yourself why anyone would junk a good Z just because it needs one of the easiest fixes in the book.

Yeah that's the SR-5 which has no horsepower, SOHC, and no rear LSD. My friend actually bought an 84' Corolla SR-5, but overtime he converted it and now has a 20v blacktop 4A-GE in there. I got to help with wiring up the ECU/Fuel Injection.
