The Quest For 10s Continue

Broke the driveshaft and damn that thing makes a racket when it is flopping around. Broke the rear u-joint right at the line and I am happy it was not the front u-joint at 120mph . There were no bits or fluids on the track, the diff seems OK rolling the car and the trans seems OK idling in Park. I crawled under car and did an inspection saw some minor dings in the SS exhaust pipe but no other damage.

The driveshaft snapped on the 2nd run of the night but what happened on the 1st run is what has me excited. Let me set the stage. I WAS convinced that a good launch, 24# boost, the O2s around 780mV and little or no knock was the ticket to break into the 10s. The plan last night was to make a pass at 20# to establish a baseline and tweak it up from there. 3 secs on the line-loc with a burnout up to the line and a 7# launch on the transbrake resulted in a......1.55 60', 7.11 @ 96.69 at the 1/8 and 11.20 @ a slow 117.95. That damn shift to OD is killing me. We guessed that was an 11.15 and a hell of a baseline. The O2s were in the 840s early in 3rd and 815 in the traps. Still too rich, but I expected that. I was now convinced that I was not just going to squeeze pass the door with a 10.99, but intended to bust down the door. With 4# boost on hand, I was looking for at least another .4. 2 steps forward, 1 step back.

I seem to recall some comments about the Z not being a good drag car because it squats too much. I wonder if anyone still wants to argue that. If I was running slicks I definitely would have put air under the front tires, but why do I need slicks when I can drive to the track and cut 1.55s?

Water cooler chat - my datalogger says the 0-60 was 2.83. GIDDY-UP

BTW, you can see me launch, errrr, lunch my driveshaft on video. I will post it when it becomes available.
