power 1/4 mile times

275.28 horsepower is required to achieve a 13 second 1/4 mile acceleration time in a 2400 pound rear wheel drive car.

Check out this site...don't know how accurate this is but it seems about right for cars I've run.

Re: power 1/4 mile times

That also depends on the driver. Besides can you turn the car and go the other way withoout losing a lot of speed? That is all I care about. I will be posting a qaurter mile oval time in a factory 280Z next Saturday night. To me a true Z can turn as well as it goes straight.

Gotta get my Z's

Re: power 1/4 mile times

that can't be a RWHP. my buddy dynoed 300+hp in 280zxt and he runs mid 12's

Re: power 1/4 mile times

Who knows how accurate it is. It must just be a rough guide 'cause gears and slicks and stuff like that make a difference. Altho' if you try it 300hp puts you smack bang in the middle of the 12s.

16.2 in a stock 280zx? what year... my 83 makes it in 17.8, although its automatic, i dont know that manual would put you that much further ahead. Mine isn't completely stock either.

Re: power 1/4 mile times

bearing in mind that a really quick runner can do it in just under a minute.......that's not really that rapid is it. Maybe I should put mine down the 1/4 before I open my mouth?

Re: power 1/4 mile times

I will have some real times on a 1/4 mile oval in a BONE stock 81ZX and a slightly modified 78Z. I am going to hot lap this weekend at the track in town. Well post my outcome.
Remeber it is only 80 percent car the driver has to know how to use what he has. I have out handled Vettes in my 78Z because the fool cant handle a car.
