painting my S30
im sanding my car down and it's taking a long time so im just taking a break anyone have any pointers?
Do you have previous experience in auto painting?
Are you trying to get to the metal or???
i have no experience and im just doing primer but my uncle knows how to paint so he's teaching me
Here's a pointer... practice practice practice. :D It takes time to build your auto body repair skills.
i know but it's taking forever and ohh i want to ask how many cans of black primer do you think it will take?
ha... I painted a car w/ rattle cans once... never wanna do it again. Does your uncle have a paint gun? Or anyone you know? Go to a paint supply store & buy a quart of one stage paint. It will be and look 1000 times better than spray painting.
Cans??? You need a paint gun... and are you going all the way down to the metal???
nope just till the clear coats off and to the primer and my uncle does have a paint gun somewhere but he can't find it
wooo wee..... ou got some learning to do. dont use cans. its crap. remember to wet wet sand. though. and use real primer. get a paint gun and an air reg ulator and a real spray gun . it takes practice its all about matching angle and distandce. use a rotating sander and striper for like boats works. and even the prill attatchement style scrub brush thing works good. its hard to get the original paint off. and remove all the metal trim and mask it off good.
i'll try but i've already started with the cans
If you started with the cans, you can either finish, or sand it off again and start over. Rattle can paint does not make a good base for good automotive paint. It will chip off way too soon.
One thing. You can make rattle can look as good as a good paint. But you have to be good, and take a ton of time. The down side, is that it will look great for about three weeks. It does not hold up, or last worth a crap. |
well i don't have the money to go get it done and i already started so i might as well finish and hope to god it holdsout long enough till i can get it done professionaly
Just do a thin primer, and hold out. That is what I would do to save myself a lot of headache down the road. Even a basic cheaper real paint job will last longer and look better than rattle cans.
im hoping and how much do you think a paint job cost for just primer?

its not that bad really, unless you start replacing entire 1/4 panels and floor pans..
Yeah, rust repair can be expensive on anything. Just depends on the extent of the repair. Also depends on how much work you are doing, and how much you are paying someone else to do. If you can get decent with basic body work and welding, things are not too expensive.
my uncle wleds and i'll learn i guess but i know that the car has only surface rust i've checked but im still new and all
Is this the same car you just posted for sale?
yes why?....
So you are or aren't going to paint it? You listed it for sale before it has paint... so I'm just wondering what your plan was.
well i kinda already started to paint it so imma finish it then sell it unless someone wants to buy it as is if not i'll finish primering it first
