oversize pistons and turbo...
i want to use oversize pistons with my stock crank in my L28. I also want to use the turbocharger and stuff on it. Is all this stuff compatible? will i blow one or the other?

ghost,
Actually, now's your chance to upgrade. If you are going to run oversized pistons you'll want to make sure you get some good ones...Forged if you can, but if not, and you want to turbocharge it you can run stock turbo pistons. What head do you have?
According to the Lengine.exe program, an L28 with turbo pistons and an N47 head will yield an 8.4:1 compression, which would be perfect for turbo duty.

Re: oversize pistons and turbo...
I'd be alright with that, if we could get them cheap enough. My other alternative is to buy a set of NISMO's and hope they're better than stock. With my head and engine combo I should be running about an 8.8:1 compression, so if I run low boost (no more than 12psi) I should be OK. For added safety I'll run toluene and/or water injection...

Re: oversize pistons and turbo...
That's the same setup I have (now I remember the whole lifter thread)
With flat tops and .20 over pistons you will have an 8.6:1 compression, which is still well within acceptable turbocharging limits (I'd go up to 9:1, but not any higher than that on pump).
Unless we can get a good price on some hypereutectics I'm going to try some NISMO flattops and hope for the best.

Hmm...assuming those prices are still correct (says as of x 2000) then those are the best prices I've seen on the pistons yet.
I may have to order me a set then...

Re: oversize pistons and turbo...
I wander if those pistons are flat top? The ring land is what's important in the turbo car. Good pistons with shallow reing land will blow the rings under boost. My buddy runs Ross forged and he said it cost him $60 a piston. I might do that because it has altered ring lands.

Re: oversize pistons and turbo...
ok this is exactly what i am going to do.
i am going to have my p90a head completely magnafluxed and resurfaced and then i am going to rebuild it myself. i am going to get a good hks 2mm metal head gasket.
i am going to have an 83 block resurfaced and machined. i think i will go .20 bore. i will find some oversized flat top pistons and buy the ring set from whoever has the cheapest price on good rings. i am going to use the stock crank after i get it looked at by a professional. while i am in there i will change all the bearings too.
i will then go to the junkyard or look on classifieds and get me a water cooled turbo from a turbo 300zx z32. i know how to run the plumbing. the turbo is the same flange in the 280zx and 300zx. i will use the stock 280zx turbo manifold.
i will find me a nice intercooler to use in the front of the radiator. i found that ford turbo probes have some nice large intercoolers. better safe to intercool than sorry.
this is my setup. it wont cost me much at all.

Re: oversize pistons and turbo...
oh yeah i am also going to be changing my stock 280zx ecu, harness and F/I system over to a 300zx ecu, harness, and f/i system tommorow. its almost a complete plug and play.
i wont have to deal with the stupid restrictive air flow meter anymore. that thing olny works correctly 1/2 the time. it never works perfect.
im looking foward to the air flow sensor.

Re: oversize pistons and turbo...
I think you are in same boat as me. I got a rebuilt turbo from 280zx not a water cool but like you said same thing. I'm going to run P90 or ported P79 with stock rotational assembly minus the pistons. May be I'll use llonger rods but I don't know. Let me know if I can help, or if you get a good info
