Oil Pressure Gauge

my oil pressure gauge has never worked since I have had my Z. I at first thought it might be the oil pressure sensor on the block, but I have replaced my block, and with it came a different oil pressure sensor, and the problem still remains. What all could the problem be? Could my wiring be bad? I have put new ends on the wires and cut them back so that there was no corrosion, but it still fails to work. What else could I check?

Check the wiring all the way up to the gauge. Check to make sure the pressure sender is even receiving/sending a signal. It could be something as simple as the gauge isn't even hooked up (unless you've already checked that). But gauranteed it has to be either the sensor, the wiring, the gauge, or you're actually not getting any pressure ( ).

how would I be able to check to see if it's recieving a signal, or if the sender is any good? I haven't checked to see if the gauge is hooked up on the back of it, but I would imagine that it was.

Easy check at the sender. Run the car, with the oil pressure sender unplugged. With a multimeter, check for voltage between the two leads. It should be *something* other than zero. Busted wiring is more likely than an unplugged gauge, barring some obvious sign like a very bad install of a stereo leaving lots of cut cables or electrical tape splices under the dash, in which case you'd probably have lots of electrical gremlins, not just one gauge. It is easy enough for a gauge to be unplugged if someone has messed around under the dash in the past, but it's a real pain to get up in there and do any real work, so I'd recommend checking the voltage first and going from there.
good luck,
Dave
